Altoids tool/EDC box for kids
on: May 04, 2014, 01:26:43 PM
I've been lurking around looking for some ideas...

I have daughter 7yo that LOVE to sketch, paint, draw, cut.... You all know that I've got her a SAK Alox Soldier, but I keep it in my drawer and she use it only in supervision... But IMHO it's time to create her a nice altoids tool kit for her interest...

So the idea is to get her good new Micra as tool, maybe to move out blade and replace with something else (file would be nice while she can sharpen pencils on it). Also I have a small LED light just in case, few bandaids, peace of cloth (she wear eyeglass)...

Other than that it should carry some drawing tools, colored wooden pencils, plain pencil, maybe crayons, pencil sharpener, some hairclips....

As you see it should be mixed Altoid tin... Some essentials for tools, medic, and then trinkets...

I really don't want to add there paper while it will be in form of small notebook (A5, B5...)

Other than that I have 11yo son, again he has a SAK Alox Soldier, again with some limitations in carry. For him I'd like to make mixed Altoid tin with again Micra + FAK + ....

Any ideas?

Sharpie Pens come as "Mini2 Measuring 9 cm.
Faber Castell does "the perfect pencil" which is a cap for a pencil with an integrated pencil sharpener.
An Inka Pen will fit nicely inside, too.
Maybe a small magnifying glass?
As Kids, we used to get small colour pencil sets at teh doctors or as giveaways in stores with 6 short colour pencils - you could also shorten standard ones.
A microfiber cloth in a minigrip bag will be a good addition.
The Micra is a nice idea, maybe a SOG is even nicer as you can remove tools more easily?
A colourful fauxton, soem printed bandaids and you are set.

Edit - Maybe a Squirt would be a more colourful alternative to a Micra?

The Boy could get a P4, the Girl an S4.

One of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Mini-Pocket-Outdoor-Hiking-Camping-Hunting-Monocular-Telescope-2-5x-17-5mm-/301141050510?pt=UK_Photography_Binoculars_Monoculars&hash=item461d67c48e
It fits in an Altoids tin ;) and if you loosen the small grub screw the front lens screws off making a great loupe for looking at insects and stuff :)
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I've had loads of them and gifted them on to family...fantastic quality item and very cheap, the metal finger loop can be cut off so it takes up less space in the Altoids tin and it's still usable :tu:

I saw those on DX too...

Neat!

But I'll get back on essentials for her... Think Fresnel lens would take less space and be as useful.
