FIFA World Cup 2014
on: June 12, 2014, 06:47:53 PM
The World football Cup starts today. :ahhh (BTW we won't be going into the football/soccer discussion. ::) )

I know there aren't many football fans around here from the previous threads but there have to be some. :D

The opening match will be the home team Brazil against Croatia, my countries team.

Who will be watching the matches? Which team is your favorite to win the tournament? Any matches you're especially looking forward too?

The first match is a must for me but I'm also looking forward to many more. :woohoo:

I do not follow football but tend to watch some world cup games. The starting match is at 23:00 here so it is too late for watching the whole game.

Count me out....the last match I watched was a UEFA final last year. I really couldn't make a lot of sense of what I was watching, and asked a friend who likes football to explain it to me the next day. He more or less agreed with me that it pretty much sucked

Oh...Le Mans 24hr this weekend :D
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

for obvious reasons I root for Spain. I'm not so bothered with catching any other games...

Somone get this man a beer!

So far everyone in Germany is complaining about the injured players. The more the germans grumble and complain, the better prepared they are.

While I don't follo the Bundesliga, UEFA, etc. I like to see the international matches, so count me in. But the late time will make it difficult this year, we will see.
As I explained before, the Germany and final round matches will certainly be broadcasted live from the market place into our appartement. I am just glad that they don't have a screen up right now - Sweety vetoed Football today.

I'm going to watch a few games. I support Greece ofcourse but my other favorites are Uruguay and Argentina from America and Netherlands and France from Europe, Cameroon from rest of the world. I hope Netherlands gets it this time, after three lost finals, unless miracles happen every 10 years and some might remember what happened in 2004.

Silly Europeans, football doesn't start until September 4, and it's called the Vince Lombardi Trophy, not the World Cup.....  ::)

I was just thinking the same thing ... you know, these things happen when you play against Brazil ...  ::)

I'm hoping the Belgians will do very well and stay in the tournament for a long looong time (every time they play 90% of the Belgian people sit in front of the TV, so the other 10% have the rest of the country for themselves  :D).

Should have been a penalty against Brazil - I despise players faking fouls and dropping like flies  :megaslap:

There was a little interview with Urs Meier on german TV, abd his statement can best be described as:  :viking:
He called the referee unprofessional and not fit for the world cup.

I doubt that referee will be given any more games this tournament after what he showed today but that's not much of a consolation for Croatian fans.

It was a game changing moment and who knows how the game would have developed without that smurf up.  Also on the third goal there was a foul on Rakitić that he didn't call that lead to Brazilians having an advantage and scoring. ::)

At 3:19

Very poor performance by the judge.

Spain leads 1:0 agaist  Neatherlands after a penalty (not sure if it actually was one).

I'm hoping that both of these teams go thrugh. I was always a big fan of Dutch football. :tu:

They are doing well though. ;)

Turned it around and now lead 1:2 after two excellent goals.

Yeap, but poor refereeing on that one. Van Percy rammed Casillias and that should have been a foul. :-\

Robben was lightning fast. And of couse he didn't pass. :P

Casillias was partially to blame for the last two though. He didn't play to well in Real this season either so I'm not sure why he was chosen.
