I really don't get it. Maybe it's just that I hadn't had a back-lock knife so far and I'm still getting used to the... blade falling down in a "free fall" after I press the lock

Doesn't this mean I should buy more knives like this to practise ?!

On a slightly more serious note: I don't let the blade "fall" at all when using a lock back, I always use my other hand to control the blade. Might be why I can't remember ever cutting myself with one.

I also was young about 6 when I had my first knife,I cut myself loads in my younger years
But it must be at least a decade since I cut myself with a multi or pocket knife
I think that cuting yourself is the only way to appreciate and learn how to use a knife .

As I get older and my RA gets worse, I'm tending to have more little cuts/nicks when using my knives.

I nearly managed to cut my left index finger off when I was thirteen. It taught me an important lesson, namely never attempt to cut cut a ping-pong ball in half with a stanley knife, while holding the ball in your left hand. A self-evident danger which would have been obvious to a five year old. I did, however, profit from the experience and now only cut myself badly once or twice a year.
