Thank you very much! Yes, they work sort of fine. The pivot ocurs to be a bit weak, as after some use it started to wear out and now there's a bit play in it. Between the double layered scales (the pliers) I had added a detent-ball to secure the closed-position. This is a bit too strong, so you need quite some force to open the pliers. It is a prototype so I ought to create some advanced models.;o)

Best regards

Welcome aboard! Pretty cool and unusual mod. Here's an idea: have you thought of having the plier straight, along the knife, and not at a 90º angle? Maybe it'll be easier to carry/store and use?

Yes, I agree with you, but in that case the pliers would interfere with using the Vic tools on that end. That's why I chose the 90 degree angle. And accepted that the tool looks like a fat penguin ... ;)

Well, I wanted sturdy pliers and a powerful wire cutter.

So stupid of me! Quite right, didn't remember SAKs have tools coming out of every which way!

This one is a bit more sophisticated (prototype), with handle scales made of herdened steel. On one side, the scales are double layered and act as pliers.
Whoa that’s so cool looking!
Very interesting mod and welcome to MTO

Is it possible to put an awl on the backside of a wood saw? What kind of spine do you need to use? I got a compact and I want to switch out the corkscrew for a Philips, but I’d also not mind to add a wood saw, I saw a hiker which has both but also a awl which would make it absolutely perfect but it looks like it goes to the backside of the openers? So I’d get the saw and Philips but just wouldn’t be able to add the awl,, any info would be appreciated..

Possible…just gotta make it (the awl) thinner if you’re going to use it with the saw spring. And be careful when deploying the saw…I think the awl tip will poke out a bit mid way. Might have dime other edge contact issues.

Might br easier to put the saw over the opener backspring. Make a rest for the saw tip and spacer as needed.

Grinding it thinner works perfectly - you hardly notice the difference when it’s done. Best to take material from the non-sharpened side mostly to avoid dulling the reamer edge but you can take a bit from each if I remember correctly.

Already posted that above.  :dunno:

Use the saw spring and grind the awl or use the opener spring and make a rest and spacer for the saw pivot and the awl is unmodified. Those are the two ‘easiest’ choices. Up to you.  :tu:

Yes and yes.  :D ;)

Sister asked for a similarly built knife (or two). I threw out a number for a potential maximum that could fit. She didn’t decline…‘whatever fits would be fine…’ understanding that I’m willing to experiment a bit.

Bad for the he dash in your car, but her SAK will literally be ‘lit like a Christmas tree’!!
