super mod, and explanation  :hatsoff:

The large blade and the combination tool do not rub?
in general the large blade has an asymmetric grind that's why I ask

Maybe slightly. I was dubious as to if it would fit without any major modification but… it does. As long as you notch the small blade spacer then it sits in their quite nicely.

Awesome! Glad to see that is still ongoing…what else are you thinking of adding in still?

adding a gutting blade and on the back of that may put a 58mm scissors, see what turns up in the future for this growing paper weight.
On the spring of the Pruning blade did you notch it out to stop the blade from hitting. i grind a notch out to get the blade low as i could, yours looks good well done.

Cheers. No, completely standard blade, just the combo tool spacer got notched to accommodate the point of the blade.
Look forward to seeing the ongoing development of the monster…!

I'm very tempted to make a Cadet X. I do have one 84mm with scissors (Climber Small) to harvest scissors from, but I wonder if the 85mm Wenger scissors might be a better choice

Also not sure what I need to get it done correctly (and put the Tourist back together).

And second, my "Dutch flag" of alox mods. They are cadets with Wenger scissors, with backspring tools as well for two of them.

MMMMMMmmmm, nice!
Lurking with a large collection of sharp knives!

Vic scissors are better (my opinion only) but the 85mm ones do stop you having to rip apart classic old 84s  :tu:

That said if you want to go for it as I don’t think the climber small scissors have a back tool they should just go straight into the cadet X no fuss at all.

That was my plan. The way I understand it is I need to drill out the Cadet's pins, add the scissors and backspring, then put in new brass rod pins, trim them and flatten the ends.

Am I missing anything? Never done it before and don't want to mess up  :ahhh

That’s essentially it but if you use the 85mm scissors you will need the main blade spring from something like a recruit for it to sit on. You will also need to create a tensioner section from an old tool like a main blade that will sit on the other end of the spring to keep the tension up. Don’t have a pic unfortunately but there are threads on here covering it in more detail which show this.

You don’t have to drill the pins all the way out just the heads so you can tap them through with a thin nail or punch. Try to save the little collars so you can use them when making celador models - after you inevitably become addicted to modding.

So 84mm scissors easier but have to destroy an 84 with scissors

85mm scissors a bit more tricky but you don’t ;0)

Unusually peen one end of the pins first before building but others do both in situ so that’s just a preferences.

Good luck whichever way you go ;0)

Thank you for the advice. I'm not sure how I could peen the pins before putting it together -- seems like it would be easier once the pins are in the

What are the size of brass rod I need for both the Cadet and the 84mm cellidor I need to put back together? It looks like only the cellidor use the collars while the alox are peened. I'm hoping the collars can be reused since I don't know where to get them.  :ahhh

I wrap mine in leather to hold them in the vice but either way works. You’ll need 2.2mm round stock for all pins on an 84mm. Yep just the celador needs the collars. I believe you can actually get them from a chap in Germany on the ‘famous auctions site’ but if you can save them all the better ;0)

Thanks

Estimated time for 2.2mm brass to Canada is up to 60 days  :ahhh Seems like not an easy thing to get ahold of. 2.5mm and 3.0mm much easier.

Stick some 2.5 in a drill and hold some 240 grit around it and you’ll soon have some 2.2

Old Böker mod. 182 Sportsman knife is one of most beautiful folding knives. I tried to mod a Victorinoy Ranger to look similar 😊. I choose model Ranger, because it has all the tools I need.
Spacers: Brass
Bolsters: New silver
Scales: Stag
Victorinox logo: cut and filed from alu scales 😊

This is Böker 182, they started to make it in 1869!

I hope you like it.

I was about to ask how you'd have recessed the back springs, then I remembered it is a Victorinox base, not a Wenger one

It looks stunning, really

New slant on a pruner! 91mm garden knife using saw (everything needs to have a saw!) and the hawksbill blade from a pruning and grafting knife. The brass scales took the longest really as the blade slots in rather nicely. It has a 3.5mm pivot hole so I did make a collar to reduce it down from some tube I found on the ‘bay that was 3.5mm with a 2.5mm inner diameter - what are the chances!

I also has to file a small nick in the combo tool spacer so the tip of the hawksbill didn’t clatter in to it.

I did use liners to keep the saw away from the scale and to provide the .4mm required to keep the main blade tight…yes it’s 2mm like a standard spearpoint.

I guess strictly you might put a small blade instead of the combo but I might carry this too and to be honest because the hawksbill has humped lines too this is one of the few scenarios I like the way the combo looks against the main blade.

Tough as old boots this. :salute:

I really must do some more dry fitting and see where my problem is because I found that the pruning blade wouldn't fit opposite another tool on a 111 mm knife.

That may be the case but…this is 91mm

100mm Hawksbill in a Trekker + Hook. Uses the liner lock for the Hawksbill. Retains all the other original tools aside from the OH serrated blade.
