I love fishing, but sadly haven't had time to fish this year. On rare occasions I fish in the ocean, but stick to lake fishing 99% of the time. I can't give you any tips on ocean fishing besides know your knots before you go. Get some old/extra line and practice your knots and making your leaders before you go. I just figure you might be a little rusty after such a long break. Besides that good luck and I hope you catch something good. Are you fishing for anything particular?

as a youngster I loved fishing. plenty of fresh water lakes and rivers close (even for a young man who's only transport was a pedal cycle) also I'm within a short hike of the Thames Estuary, many happy hours fishing there and on the mashes. Can't remember catching much in the marshes except for the odd Eel. probably too much pollution in those days. might have more luck nowadays
I just loved being outside TBH the fishing was just a good excuse. we (my mates and I) would take a tent sometimes and stay for days !
ah the good ol' days  :dd:
work, wives and kids took up too much time for many years, so I got out of it, most of my kit went missing during some house moves  I have been trying to get back into it, got myself some freshwater kit and went a few times with my uncle, who's always been an avid angler, and is now retired. he hates 'dogs' and is too scared to go on his own nowadays :(
unfortunately I have trouble justifying the 'license fee'
so I started to get together some beach caster rods etc. some killer deals at bootfairs ;) but haven't actually got as far as the sea yet
now my health is on the up I would love to try a trip or two

I used to go fishing, but I don't know if the fishes are getting smarter or I'm getting dumber, and I wasn't much good to begin with. Haven't done it for two years now.  :(

I'm actually doing some night fishing right now. Sitting off the coast of one of our barrier islands. There is nothing more relaxing after a long week of work than heading out in the boat and wetting a line. Life's problems and headaches remain at the dock.

To add to my other post about learning your knots. DO NOT forget to wet the knot before you tighten it down. Either put it in your mouth or spit on it. No joke.  :tu:

in america there are a lot of rivers and lakes untouched by man so there stocks are at a good level ,so I understand catch and release might be a strange thing to yous , vut  our rivers and loughs and even the seas are under threat, alantic salmon stocks are low , brown trout are getting a hammering too , the eels in lough neagh are down 98% (I live beside lough neagh) and you can't breed eels in a hatchery like the trout and salmon as eels only grow there reproductive organs when they get to there breeding grounds off the coast of Bermuda. my fishing club has a hatchery at the top of the river where they spawn some salmon and trout caught from the river , they do this to keep genetic strains healthy in the river.  a bit long winded but there is my reason for catch and release in an nutshell:-)

I completely understand. It is nice to appreciate the sport while preserving it for future generations to enjoy as well.

The part about the USA having untouched rivers and lakes is partially correct. I would never say untouched, but we do have lakes and rivers with proper numbers of native fish, but those locations are few and far between in my state. Most lakes around here are stocked with fish regularly. My old lake I used to fish would stock 700-800 pounds of trout ever single week.

Catch and release is not uncommon for me at all. I always release Bass (Black and Stripped) and Catfish, but almost always keep Trout as it is my favorite fish that I fish for to eat. Easy to clean and taste amazing.  :tu:

I fish in a variety of places and manners. Mostly spearfishing but also some rod fishing. Lakes, sea. I posted some details in the now dead fishing-hunting sub forum here. Usually I will have a fishing rod and the speargun in the car for most of the summer.

I usually catch and release as well, despite having ample fish.  I don't eat fish and my wife won't eat anything that was recently alive.

I usually fish in fresh water, although here you need a license to fish in fresh water but not in the ocean.  I don't mind as the license is only about $30/year.

License's  are needed here as well.

You need a State License for Freshwater and Salsmurfer which is 33 USD for a florida resident

Then to fish eglin you need another 20 USD for a pass, then you watch a video on unexploded ordinance!
