Guppie arrived today...

What I figured is that the Guppie was designed more as a bike tool, and thus the 1/2" was appropriate. I don't think I'll be gorilla torquing down anything it can currently fit anytime soon.

By the way, are you referring to the full-size Guppie or the smaller Li'l Guppie?  My full size Guppie does open up to 3/4"

Weird  mine's a full size one and it only opens to (very slightly over) 1/2"

My full-size goes to 1/2" but if I wiggle the jaws while turning the cylinder I can get it open to a full inch but then there is danger of the jaw falling off the tool so I'm guessing it was mean for 1/2" only.

Hmmm, perhaps I am over-opening mine then. The User's Manual claims only 1/2" opening:
