Car was hit yesterday
on: July 14, 2014, 12:05:10 AM
Yesterday at an intersection, two right turn lanes going onto a two lane street, and I was in the left one. Light turns green, I turn towards the left lane of the street, idiot in pickup truck towing trailer on my right, and cut straight in front of me instead of going into the right lane. Bang, crunch, he swung his trailer into my right front.

We both stop on side of street, idiot sez "oh I didn't know there were two right turning lanes", guess he missed the three ft tall sign that shows which lane can turn where right at the intersection.

His trailer fender is all bent, as far as I can tell I have a rust colored rub mark on my tire sidewall, thank god for my offroad tires with thick sidewalls that's also sticking out.  ::)

If I had sold the jeep and gotten a car like I had planned there would be at least 2k of damage. And the worst part is because the retarded "no fault" policy we have, I would have to get my insurance company to fix it and my premium goes up. Still don't know why the genius in government dreamt up this policy...

So that's another normal day in land of Quebekistan.

What's this ""no fault" policy you're talking about ?  It's quite clear it's the guy with the pickup his fault, because he switched lanes while you stayed in your lane while turning right, or am I missing something ... ?

That's one of the Quebec special...

Any accident that happens both party go to their own insurance company, who pays for repairs. The only difference if you are at fault or not is whether you pay the deductible, but your insurance premium goes up regardless because you've made a claim (remember, no fault so doesn't matter who hit who).

For all the complaining you've done about your Jeep in the past, I think it just vindicated itself!

You'd have to save an awful lot of gas in a smaller car to equal the $2k (or more) that the Jeep just saved you!

No kidding, it's actually one of the reasons I never went through it. This is not the first time it has gotten me out of an accident, a few years ago I was able to avoid an highway pileup because I was high up and see what was going on over the cars in front!

But the body panels are rusting and I have no clue how to fix that, so not sure how long I can keep it.

Of course there's also the time it nearly killed me on icy highway...  :P

What kind of stupid rule is that ...

Don't ask me, I hate it especially I've never been in an "at fault" accident...  :-X

All no fault insurance does is screw the good drivers, and let the idiots get away with being stupid!

First, good to hear you weren't injured, and that no one else was either.

Second, that 'no fault' stuff sounds really stupid.

Third... maybe look at getting the rusted parts replaced? Gotta be a scrap yard with spare parts, right? I mean, aren't jeeps the national bird of Canada? Spare parts are everywhere, I'd imagine. :D

Not much better here in the states, at least in Michigan.

On a four lane road and this lady turned left right in front of my wife who was coming the oppisite way and crash.  Around $15,000 or so in damage and clearly her fault but cop said he didnt give her a ticket cause she suffered enough damage to her car so it wouldnt do any good.  Her car was an old Buick, about 1990 ish and my wife car was a new Honda CR-V with only 5000 miles o  it maybe!!!

Glad your okay though!!
