I would go for a Mechanic. Hardly a day goes by where I don't need those pliers in some form.

Day-to-day I just don't use a wood saw, metal saw, or pliers.  Openers and screwdrivers neither, almost.  I go to the toolbox for real work.  I need a blade, scissors, toothpick, and fingernail cleaner.  So if I could have only one SAK for every day carry it would be an old Golfer with back-side file; the corkscrew the safest way to open corked wine and holds the minidriver for my spectacles, the combi-tool for beer and the odd can and untight screws.  I am getting old enuf that I would carry my pearl-handled one, like Grandpa and his old Henckels, and ease on down the road...
Instead of such simplicity I EDC an Executive, with a SwissChamp in the kit, and others scattered where they might come in handy which they do.

I will say swisschamp would be the best choice for except is a little bulky to me. I think Huntsman is more accurate, but will miss the phillips screw driver. Mike Horns Wenger looks great, but I didn't own it, so this will be my  option.

My choice if I could only carry one SAK would be an Explorer.
Perfect allround everyday SAK.  :tu:

I am torn between an old red cross pioneer or farmer.  The pioneer is a better EDC for me, but I like the farmer for woods-bumming.  Either one would need brass liners, of course  ;)

Fortunately, I own the pioneer version, which you may recognize from my avatar   :D

I have carried a few different SAK's. I think my Camper is what I would choose. Although I have a Wenger that I have never been able to identify with certainty that would fit. 85mm Eddie Bauer scales, a locking non serrated blade, small blade, saw, opener layer, corkscrew and awl. No Phillips available but liked the smaller carry size.

Well I don't own one, but if I could only have one SAK it would be the Vic Automobile.
Blade, Metal File and a set of Screw-Drivers.

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

So few votes for Wenger  :-\
Anyway, here's my vote. It's a tough choice, but I think I stand behind this little guy. I've mentioned my appreciation for the:
Slightly more belly on the main blade,
The Locking main blade,
The flat philips driver,
The corkscrew that's easy to supplement with a Vic mini-driver.
The very pocketable 85mm construction.

In short, a Vic Eplorer, almost, but a tad smaller, thinner and lighter. Mostly missing the Mag Glass, (useless to me) hook and second blade. It's a locking version of the http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+Classic+132.

I'd carry a huntsman. I find it a great balance of size/portability.

Would love to swap the small blade for a serrated edge though, similar to the Leatherman Sidekick.

Midnite Manager. Great tool set accompanied by an awesome pen and a good LED.

I carry a 91mm daily and rarely find myself reaching for it.

+1

I couldn't say it better

probably my old glow-in-the dark Camper.  It has been to Mexico, Nicaragua, Moldova, and South Africa (always in the check-in bag of course).

My Huntsman....I've owned it since October 1983 and it's been all over the world with me.  The only thing I wish it had was pliers...otherwise it's always done everything I've asked of it.

I think it would be the Swiss Champ all the way for me. I already carry mine constantly. An alternative would be the Handyman.

Today I will say Field Master (Huntsman with backside Philips). It's a good size and has most bases covered! Ask me tomorrow i will probably choose something else.

Man, that's a tough question...only one?

It would have to be my early 70's Champion, which would be on my belt (too larger for pocket carry).

But I always have an SAK in my pocket, so I'll cheat and also have my Cadet along for the ride!

I love my Trekker, for me its the only SAK in my pocket when Im at my camp or in the woods. I can see the argument for scissors which it lacks but I can make do  :D

I'd have to say Super Tinker for me.  I really like the SwissChamp too, but it's too big to carry all the time.  Super Tinker is my most carried SAK, and I could get by with dedicated tools for how infrequently I use anything else.

lots of votes for the huntsman. That would have been my answer at one point and time.

I think I would go with the Ranger with plus scales. It is barely thicker than the Huntsman but adds a metal file, screwdriver and scraper. If you like a Huntsman/Fieldmaster and haven't tried a Ranger I recommend giving it a shot.

Normally I would say a Pioneer/Soldier but lately the Marly Trail Guide is been fitting most of my requirements for an EDC.  I still have a Pioneer handy in my daypack but the Trail Guide is spending more and more time in my pocket. Very handy these days.

(Image removed from quote.)

Always have a bunch of different SAKs in my daypack to play with so this could change.

If it's for the rest of my life....probably a Pioneer/Soldier/Farmer.....or a Swiss Champ....or.....?  :ahhh

Great Sak there buddy  :salute:
