Beef Jerky?
on: June 24, 2008, 05:57:14 AM
So, do any of you guys like beef jerky? I love beef jerky. I make it myself too. I bought a Cabela's Jerky Kit and it's so easy.. I have used deer, fish, and even turkey. I went to Stop and Shop and I bought three pounds of london broil to make some jerky.. I will make it tomorrow.

I like it a lot; great thing to snack on while I'm working.

The "brand name" Jack's Links is like $5 a bag and is good...but there's another "low class" brand I buy called Steakhouse...2 bags for $5  :D  I think it's made specifically for Walgreens/Walmart.

MMMMmmmmm   Jerky.....

I'm eating a bag of the Kobe beef jerky from Costco right now.    Pretty god stuff, but the spicy jerky with red pepper is better.

My home made stuff came out pretty good today.. I tried a method I saw on TV. I got 4 pounds of london broil from Stop and Shop for $1.80 a pound.. Then, I cut it up real thin and in strips. I marinated it in a variety of spices.. Then, I let it sit for 5 hours marinating. So, I put it in the oven on convection for about 11 hours. It came out really good! Also, the trick is to put olive oil in the marinade.. It keeps it moist!

I love jerky. A guide I used to work with made this thick deer jerky that was marinated in vinegar for a while before drying. It was the best, especially with beer. I wish I had the recipe.

Beer is in every marinade I make including jerky brine.    I like 1/3 teryaki, 1/3 soy, 1/3 beer with a little vinegar, a couple tablespoons of honey, some red chile powder and cayanne.

LM, if you put oil in your marinade, eat your jerky within a week and keep it cool or it can go rancid and give you the squirtz.   :o :o :o

How do you dry it? sun or air dry?
