I watched the local news yesterday, and there was a brief mentioning of what happening.  In the news, it said the 'hacker' reset the password by answering correct personal questions, and may gain access to those photos(or maybe by turning on their icloud?)  Anyway, Apple users beware!

I would be very surprised if these bimbos did not want these pics revealed, because in their worldview there is no such thing as bad publicity.  Consider how Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian became rich and famous.  Hint:  it wasn't their ability to teach Calculus II.  Or even to enunciate for that matter.

I have spoken.

I think it may be a little unreasonable (or at least, rather pessimistic) to judge someone based on picture taken either by themselves or with a partner in the privacy of their home.

I agree.  I don't believe that being in the public eye automatically makes people public property and any less deserving of reasonable expectations of privacy, or basic civility for that matter.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

While I do agree, you can make me a celebrity and pay me millions upon millions of dollars and take all the naked pictures of me you want.  :D

I think it may be a little unreasonable (or at least, rather pessimistic) to judge someone based on picture taken either by themselves or with a partner in the privacy of their home.

I don't judge people for the stupid things they do in their own homes.  Just to prove it, I'm sitting here right now wearing nothing but a goat mask and tennis shoes.

I do judge as stupid, though, the act of uploading naked pics of oneself to "the cloud" and then feigning shock when the pics are allegedly hacked.  One does not exercise their right to privacy by stripping down, shooting a bunch of digital pics, and then uploading them to a server over which they have no control.  And as if by magic, individuals who never send naked selfies across the interweb are immune from the unauthorized release of their non-existent selfies.

Mr. Smashie, who is much nicer than me, stated it even better:

Experience from work has taught me, "If you don't want your smurf out there, don't put it anywhere near the internet"

The real point I was trying to make above, though, is that celebrity attention smurfs like Jennifer Lawrence are almost certainly relishing this round of attention - irrespective of their claims to the contrary.

I guess I'm a bit jaded when it comes to the whole celebrity obsession thing.

Sure some of them are very attractive and apart from an appearance based attraction what do you really like about them - The character they portrayed in a movie or on TV? You do realize that's not who they are at all...

I guess having worked for a radio station in London and meeting a number of "stars" and being able to actually sit down and chat with them (sorry, mostly rock & metal personalities...) I feel very differently. Many years ago I looked up at many of my favorite bands and thought how amazing it must be to be a "rockstar", but now that I've seen the less than glamorous truth of the behind the scenes I feel rather differently. Mostly they are no different except that every thing they do is being scrutinized by the public. Honestly I don't know how more of them aren't having a nervous breakdown every few months with the crap they have to cope with.

I can't stand the whole gossip/paparazzi thing. Who really gives a toss that famous person X/Y went to Burger King or does their shopping at Walmart or goes topless on a topless beach... If they hadn't been in the spotlight you probably wouldn't think twice about someone doing those things, but because they're famous it's NEWS! I really cannot understand people's obsessions with famous people... they are after all the same as the rest of us.

As for the issue at hand, I'm sure there are plenty of non famous people doing the same exact thing, the only difference being that since they aren't in the public eye no one really cares. The only outcome I can really see coming out of this is perhaps people will be a little more careful for the next month or so, then things will roll back to normal until the next naked celebrity hacking "scandal" breaks.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

Did you steal that from my mind? I couldn't have written it better myself. In that rare event that a "celebrity" comes in to my store, that person gets the exact same treatment as the rest of the customers; even if an internation celebrity, such as, say, Orlando Bloom or Jessica Lawrence, walked in to the store, they'd get the same treatment. I might be a little surprised, that they were able to find their way to Denmark, but that doesn't change the fact that they, as people, are just the same as everybody else. They just happen to have a talent that makes them famous.
Kinda like Lee Harvey Oswald...

I find most "celebrities" are happy to have someone speak to them normally rather than go all fan-crazy.

I have had the chance to speak with several people well above my pay grade/social standing, and found most of them to be pleasant to speak with...

Given that Jennifer Lawrence is an actor from a series of movies targeted at teenagers (Hunger Games) and this leak will likely negatively affect her career, I rather seriously doubt this

+1

I think a lot of people would think of this as a publicity stunt or stupidity that they voluntarily upload all the pictures to icloud so they risk exposing themselves.

But as I mentioned earlier, what if some of them only mind their own business and did turn off the icloud?  Yet their passwords are hacked and someone turned on the icloud for them, and upload the pictures without them knowing?  I can't help but to think there exist this possibility and do have sympathy for them, especially who really did get hacked.

I really do agree with that.  But if they are really just ordinary people with a 'public' life, don't they also deserve a little sympathy for what happened?  I can't speak for everyone, but I would guess some of them really don't like that kind of exposure.

Yes of course. Taken without permission sucks regardless of your social status. Nothing can compensate them now, and there's no undoing it.

Doubt it, probably tens of thousands of teenagers rubbing one out to the photos and looking forward to the next film.

Ah, the old blame the victim.

Apple has sold everyone on their crap on their the claim that their cloud storage was as secure as putting it on paper. Apple lied, they fell for it, along without about half a billion other people. It's like being told the brakes in a new car work, and the truth is that they do, other than when it's wet and it's tuesday- if it's raining on tuesday, do people deserve to not have their brakes work? And you're going to blame them when they don't, rather than the people who made the breaks. THat's justice, yes Sir! :salute:

THey get paid for their ability to act and/or their looks. This breach isn't a whole lot different than breaking into someone's workshop and stealing what they've made. Or just picking their pockets, except I don't see anyone making money off it.

I think we've seen all the opinions that can be had here.  Some people think this, some people think that, in the end it's flippin pictures of parts we've all seen in our own lives in various ways, and it shouldn't even be this big a deal.  The real problem is not the fact that the photos are nudes, it's the fact that something was stolen.  Whether it's an intimate picture or a picture of your kid riding a bike, it's yours and some arsehole stealing it and posting it for the world to see is wrong.
