Why don't you have a chat with the guys in Halfords? Not sure how much it would be to integrate the ipod to your stereo though.
Another option might be the Parrot phone carkits, I think they can play your ipod as well. Only an option if you're looking for handsfree car kit as well.

I tried the transmitters but never had any luck so always had the earphones in  ::) Fortunately my latest motor has full ipod connectivity  :ahhh it is a true dream. I listen to a lot of podcasts and audiobooks as well as my tunes  :D

Because (and I do hate to generalise, but I will make an exception this time) the majority of people that work there are idiots.  I have asked "technical" questions in the past and have actually ended up telling them more than they told me.

I'm back!!

I tried this on boxing day - the guy was no use at all.
I used to come here a lot.

I can understand that about Halfords [or Halfrauds as mentioned in another forum ]

I was standing by the sat nav's one day and one of their sales assistants was talking to someone about the various features. I really had to resist the urge to jump in and take over  :twak: and I am no expert. It was painful to watch :-\

Hope you get you your ipod hooked up soon Ben  :D

Well I am toying with the idea of getting a Monster transmitter of some sort as I have always had good experience with Monster cables before.  Have seen one for £42 that incorporates a charger a 3 different signals can be preset on it.  In my relatively short journey I reckon 3 signals should give me enough options to get a decent signal.

And that will automatically switch the frequency if there's interference on the one you're using. Is that right?

Some do and some don't.  I may go for a manual switch as I have visions of it scanning for ages in dodgy area.
I'm back!!
