I like the larger screens but mine also go in an otterbox defender so a thinner phone is a plus. I've got a 5s at the moment so I'll miss the 6 and 6 plus but the updated versions I'll probably get the plus.

My phones also never go in my back pocket, unlike those skinny jeans wearing hipsters that have been bending their shiny new iphones.

I saw a story today that people are going into apple stores and trying to bend the display models, arse hattery seems to know no bounds

To be fair girl pants have tiny front pockets, the only phone can fit is a flip phone.

My 5" phone has better battery life than my old 4", would be even longer if they didn't go for the thinness.

All I want to say is I profoundly loathe any portable phone that cannot be operated one-handed securely

I use a Nokia C5 with buttonz for some years now and I couldn't be happier with it. I got an upgrade from the telecommunications provider, my first smartphone, a Sony Experia Z2 and it's nice and all (for me) but there's no way I'm carrying that thing around willingly.  over

I think phones are getting thinner because most people end up buying a case. The thinner the phone, the less bulky it is with a case.

I agree.. my S5 is (.400") 10mm thick with a Spigen case. Despite the 5" screen I dont feel it in my pocket.

I have a Galaxy Note 3 in a UAG case.  It is HUGE.. and at first this bothered me. Now I don't mind the size so much, but I can't seem to get it integrated well into my EDC bag. There seems to be no good pouch for "phablets".

Ugh.. phablet. I hate that term. Internet  blogger portmanteau crap.

I just retired my Note 3 because of how huge it was with an Otterbox on it. I now have an S5 Active,  which is essentially a normal S5 with an integral rugged mil-spec housing. It manages to be comfortably pocketable while being tough enough to survive my job. (Hopefully...)

It's actually thick enough to hold without being a monster.

the active series has the right idea... make the phone durable without an additional case. Although admittedly there are people who change phones so often they don't bother with a case to protect it.

The whole custom case deal got a bit out of hand... not like on my old nokia 3510i where you could swap the outer shell easily.

I bought my Nexus4 just over a year ago (yeah, right before they launched the Nexus5...) and have no plans to replace it for at least another year or possibly more.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

The S5 is pretty durable without a case. It's waterproof which is a definite step in the right direction.

I still put a case on it though.

The chrome rim could be more scratch resistant, or at least use something doesn't show chips.

As for water resistance, it's tested under perfect condition with no movement, consider we open the back a few times at least and the USB cover everyday, a piece of lint could make it leaks like any other phone.

That still makes it better than most other phones.  It won't get immersed much with me but I work outside and it rains a lot here.

+1.  Love my Nexus 4 (except the slippy glass back) - it's fast, powerful, kept up to date and was reasonably cheap for such a decent phone.  Bought a Nexus 7 to go with it (and gave all my Apple stuff to my wife for Christmas :D ).
