Best places to buy gear in Canada?
on: November 16, 2014, 08:28:10 PM
Hi,

I am an avid Canadian gear enthusiast and I often have trouble sourcing my gear online. Amazon is great, but I find that their Leatherman stock is pretty lacking and their prices are pretty high. Do you know of any good online Canadian gear suppliers with prices competitive with amazon.ca?  I am mostly looking for a knife and MT supplier.

Thanks!

LMI

I do not go on Amazon...so I can't tell you if the prices match...but this is the best Leatherman store I can find in Canada so far.

I find that the prices at the Mountain Equipment Co-op (www.mec.ca) are often very good, even lower than Amazon.ca.

For example, they are currently selling the Leatherman Wave in a package with the bit extender and the
Croc for $92 CDN (before taxes, including shipping). See here:
http://www.mec.ca/product/5040-154/leatherman-wavecrocbit-extender/

You have to join the co-op before you can buy ($5 for lifetime membership), but they have great gear and excellent service. I've been a member for more than 20 years, and they are very good about returns.

Its tough for sure.  I still buy mostly from the US.  But I do routinely scan amazon.ca and actually canadian tire has good prices sometimes for the limited selection they do carry.  MEC actually had a super cheap release price on a leatherman rebar.  It was only $40 when I bought.

For Vic stuff, I still buy from Tim mostly, but will pick up deals here and there where I can.

You can't beat Felinevet Tim for SAKs, that's for sure.  For the rest I mostly buy from the US.

I've purchased Spyderco and Fenix products from these guys:
warriorsandwonders.com
Check them out, they sell a lot of different brands.  They also have a brick-and-mortar store in Vancouver.

+1 for both MEC and Warriors and Wonders. I've used them both many times before.

Felinevet, SAKs so fast you'll freak.

Plus as a forum sponsor he's always a good person to buy from.  :D

Oddly enough, the Internet is basically a place where you can (and many do) complain about everything.   In over a decade of working with Tim I don't recall hearing a single complaint about him.   On the Internet.

Seriously.

Take a moment and let the gravity of that statement sink in.

No complaints.

Over a decade.

On the Internet.

I have a complaint about Tim.

In over two weeks of looking he has not had one NIB Voyager for sale. Not one?!

How can you call yourself a SAK dealer and not have a low volume, not very popular, discontinued SAK piled to the rooftops in case some random guy comes around looking for one?

Just inexcusable.
