Traditional Dutch knives?
on: October 11, 2014, 02:30:39 PM
I've always been a bit ashamed about not knowing anything about knives in my home country, so I was kinda hoping... Does anyone know anything about the history of knives in the Netherlands, any authentic Dutch knives, like France has the Laguiole and Opinels, and the US classics like the Stockman and all that?

I'd love to hear more about Dutch knives like that, if anyone has any info :)

My google fu  isn't the stuff of legend, but I couldn't find anything :(

It could be that like us you inherited your knife designs from others ??? We are supposed to of invented the Seax but that's actually a German design :)

Sent from the astropathic choir.

Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Since European countries are small and close together, I'd imagine all the designs are influenced by everybody, just that some places managed to lay claim to a certain design.

US has stockman etc. But you can't say it's from the state of Texas or such.

I'd say the "patattenscheller" is somewhere from the Belgium - Netherlands - Germany area, but I am not a 100 percent sure...
There is a Belgan knifemaker that makes very nice ones, but they are not cheap. One day I'll have to pick one up.
