Wind Storm.
on: October 15, 2014, 07:15:21 PM
Last night, I was going upstairs when the whole house shook, which was around 11:30 PM. I was puzzled at what it could have been as it went on for only seconds. I quickly went back downstairs to check around the house. I even turned on my outside rear flood light and saw nothing. I didn't think anything of it until my neighbour called this morning. She told me her neighbour's tree fell down. Curious, I decided to look around my house and couldn't see any damage. However, when I looked into my other neighbour's yard, I saw this...

That is her phone line down. I knocked on her door and they checked their phone...which worked. Ok. Then I traced back the line and wasn't pleased with what I saw. For years, I have been annoyed by their phone line crossing my property and directly over my garage. This is what I saw...

Yes, that is their phone line running across the roof of my garage.

Upon closer inspection, I noted that the phone polls were skewed.

Anymore, and this sucker might have done my garage some damage.

Ok, time to see this downed tree as it appears to have affected the whole block. Walking in my neighbour's yard, plenty of loose wires...

The culprit in my neighbour's neighbour's yard.

And pushing through the tree to their neighbour's yard...

Past the down tree, the phone line is super tight.

As is the line to my house.

So I phoned Bell, and after playing phone tag and an hour later, I was finally sent to the right area. I was told they would call me back (which they didn't incidentally). I would like them to move that phone line so that it doesn't cross my property. However, I have a feeling they won't listen to me, that is if I can get in contact with the right folks.

Maybe even try calling up your municipal representative or MLA/MPP/MNA (whatever Province you are in!) about it?
mention that you think it lowers your property value. You'll probably get your way then.

Chako, hope you will be able to find ways to resolve this, but is that fallen tree right next to your house?  The phone line looks dangerous, and hopefully it won't snap and hurt anyone.

Oh man, that is so annoying. I also hate that "We will call you back"

Hope you get it sorted out quickly.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I had to call back. Got someone who actually knew something and was able to direct me to the right source. After a 5 minute hold, they were able to tell me that work crews have been notified of the incident...which is all I needed...some confirmation that something will get done about it.

Comis, 2 houses down.

Chako,

in the last picture,  I really like the structure way in the background,  not sure what it is (industrial something) but it looks very cool, and interesting to me.
If I can help, let me know

That is the old Algoma Steel...now called Essar Steel. They sent a supervisor to look at things...and that is about it. Nothing done yet...go figure. So happy I am with Shaw and not Bell these days. :D

if you are ever out with your camera and can get a picture of the the old Algoma Steel, would you take one and share?  I think I would like it as a desktop background

(in my head I see a dark view of it, like Gotham)  it looks really cool

Would you believe still no sight of Bell Canada to fix their wires and pole which is still precariously now leaning towards my garage...so much so that the guide wire on the other side is taut.

Got pretty windy here today. I came home to a smaller tree across our front gate. Took an hour or so to clear.
