Leatherman ST200 likes and dislikes?
on:

I find myself looking at this ST200 I have lying about (my other one is still in the UK after the Meetup!) and I was wondering what everyone else likes and/or dislikes about it?

I like the ST 200.. But, I'd rather a Core. I hate the locks on it.. But, the rest of the tool is great! The ST 200 really doesn't have any faults.. But, it's not my cup of tea!

The tools are too darn hard to remove due to the lock strength, couple this with the sharp edges on most of the tools and it busts up my fingernails pretty quickly. Some of the tools are also hard to get to.
I like the handle comfort and the implement selection though.

I like the supertool 200.
I know some people don't like them, but I like the locks, they work just fine. I've never had the locks fail and that's what is important to me. These are the same as on the Pulse. I do prefer the locks on the newer Leatherman's because they are easier to release.
One of the guys I work with uses a ST200 ever day at work. He uses it for everything and he doesn't baby it at all. I did see him bend a screwdriver once on a stubborn screw. He just stuck in between two immoveable pieces of metal and straightened it out. I told him he could send it back to Leatherman for repair, but he is quite content with it the way it is. He loves it. I showed him a bunch of different makes and models of multitools, but he was having none of it.

I like the beefiness of the ST. It's tools are reassuringly thick and the whole tool gives the air of reliability. The locks can be somewhat tricky if you have a knife or saw out. I've had to be careful not to slip my thumb off the locks. I've always felt the ST200's locks were a mere stopgap Leatherman came up with until a better design could be arranged. I still prefer the Bear/Swiss outside-available tools. Still, of all my tools, if I had to bet my life on a multitool, I'd want it to be the Supertool.

I don't have a ST 200 but I do have a Pulse and I like the locks on them. I would like a lot of others tool like to have a ST 200 one day
Then it would be 1 off my list
of course it wouldn't be long before it's spot filled as well

I like the ST200. It's one hefty tool, and if I didn't have my Core I would use it a hell of a lot more than I do.
In practice I find the Core is a more workable option, mostly due to the improved locks and it is packaged better. I also think that the serrated blade on the Core makes it the perfect MT in the garden. Whilst the ST200 would be adequate, the Core is the one I always pick up.
I used to come here a lot.

Well I've only had my loaner for a week now, but I really like it, and hope to have a review soon, so I can send it back to it's rightful owner

If you could take the body and tools of the ST200,locks and plier head of the core, you would have an almost perfect work tool.

On the ST200 I must say I am totally on side Benner. My brother-in-law was given an original ST by his boss, and I much prefer its simplicity. I like the handles a bit better on my ST200, but I really dislike the locks.

I love the ST-200. Like the Pulse was to the PSTII, It's like a PST modified to (attempt to) remove all of it's failings.
