I give you the Spyder Card.

Please post the most unusual knife or cutting tool that you own or have owned in the past.

Edited to add that this tool in 1/8" thick.

I do seam to remember a first seeing a Spydercard  in an ep of "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World" 1999-2002 TNT. A helicopter pilot caught in a storm crashed and was tied up by natives. They did this close up of him pulling a Spydercard from his wallet and cutting the ropes. Its Been a long time so I cant remember the specific ep but I am pretty sure it was "Lost World" not "Leana" which was on at the same time and was basically Tarzan Barbie.(pretty sure that was the title)

It was super cool expecialy when the only other Card Knives on the market at the time were the original SwissCard and The CreditCardCompanion...I'm not counting those OPMT stamped POSs that wont go away.

Boker makes something similar now "Boker Plus Credit Card Knife"

I don't remember the episode that featured this Spydie.

Good memory.

That Cardsharp is interesting.

I almost forgot about a Blackie Collins design created for Gerber.

I used to wear a "Handy Twine Cutter" on my right ring finger when I worked shipping to cut the twine we bound pallets with before they went to the stretch wrap machine.

As I said  I don't remember the LostWorld ep with the spydy just the scene. But it could have been "Leana" but like many late night filler shows of the era that one didn't last long and there's too many Leana's working in show biz to make google useful. But I know the title is right because I remember Savini saying he was going to do fx for a couple ep one night in his chat but I didn't see it in his filmography on wiki.
Maybe I'm just miss remembering. Maybe that show never existed.  After all that's what they said about "star hunter" till I found a vhs at a flea market.
Or perhaps I'm bored and being a bit obsessive about a show that didn't matter 15yes ago when it was on the air and deserves to be forgotten.

But its bugging me like a bad song. :twak:

I always had a liking for the old Christy knife. Blade slides up out of the handle and locks in a couple different lengths. Maybe the first one handed knife made in the U.S. way back in the 1930's. Small company, family owned and just hanging on these days. The Christy knife was sold in the Navy exchanges and army PX's and actually saw a good amount of service in WW2. The one here is badly worn, about 40 years old, and was my dad's. He was a big fan of these knives, and in his later years when he had some bad arthritis, it was his only pocket knife when he retired his little Case peanut. Earl Christy has passed away, but his son Hal is now running the company, trying to keep it going. They are not a hevy duty knife, but extremely handy for a light duty pen knife kind of thing.

Here's what it looks like closed.

New one in box with spare blade.

Most unusual knife I own is what's know as a Swedish Barrel knife.  Most folks have no idea how to open it without being shown.

Not my pic, but shows the knife well:

Kershaw had a knife that had one point of rotation on one pin at the base of the blade. The bottom scale stood still, the blade rotated 180, then the other scale would rotate 360 to open the knife.

I should have bought it when I saw it.

there are some still making the barel knives, but they are not made by any major company. They are popular in some countries, as gareth mentioned

Them Christy knives are pretty cool. The one I picked up last year didn't come with a spare blade, and they moved to essentially a ziplock bag for packaging. They also have a model that is plated black. Very thin and very sharp.

That's an interesting concept. With my Elfin Safety hat on though, doesn't having the lock release where it is make it prone to closing unexpectedly?

Only in theory but not in practical use.

I can hold the handle and squeeze it tightly and never begin to engage the lock release.

I think you reached a reasonable conclusion based upon a viewing of the knife.

Fortunately Blackie Collins was way ahead of the safety curve when he designed this knife.
