I am such WWII nut
on: January 20, 2015, 10:05:55 PM
Every time I see the word "Signal", first thing came in my mind is the SIGNAL magazine.
And "SS" in this forum has completely different meaning. Me and lowtech had a huge misunderstanding over that.

That was definitely one of the more unusual misunderstandings :D, but that's all it is. I'm a big history fan as well Kampfer, I've taken classes for no credit simply because I wanted to know more!

Absolutely! No matter what that's one cool ride, I'd love to have one of those to cruise in. My dad is fixated on the '67 Chevelles and GTOs, so naturally it rubbed off a bit.

Chevy SS? Forget it!

This is the only automotive SS that counts - Mercedes SS.

Nice looking ride but I am still a huge American muscle car fan.

I bet I could sell the Mercedes SS and buy me a fleet of Chevys though.

I even have a spot in my heart for the long forgotten pretend muscle cars like the 77 Olds 442, the Olds starfire the Chevy monza. All The cars that are basically unwanted today

Ironically a Nova was sold by Vauxhall (the UK arm of GM) in the UK but was the polar opposite of your Nova in that ours was the tiniest little hatchback "supermini" car.... :-[

Some anglophile car enthusiast may beg to differ, citing the "Swallow Sidecar" vehicles made by a company later (after WWII) renamed Jaguar.  Some of them looked pretty cool, and their model names were SS followed by their max speed (in mph) eg SS100

I had a 69 Olds 442. Would have been a great car I think, except for its big block motor rolling down the road one day.

I wish it was a more interesting story and shed a better light on me but here it is.

I was in the process rebuilding the motor and moving it to the place where I was going to put it back in the car. Time was short before I moved back home after getting out of the Army from my first enlistment so I hired a tow truck to help me.

We used the winch to put the motor on the back of the tow truck and down the road we go. Pretty sure you can figure out what happened next.

After that one I went through a number of 88-92 Mustangs including a Vortech supercharged monster. Now I ride my Harley and mess with my 420 horse Hemi truck.

Of course if I hit the lottery all bets are off.

Sounds like the scene in "The Great Race", when Max (Peter Falk) is telling Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon) about the ways he's sabotaged all the race cars.

"Car number 8, the engine falls out"

"Har, Har... Max, we're number 8…"

KACHUNG!

Followed by a shot of the car going down the road with the engine bouncing along behind it, shedding parts.

Crazy part is I was following behind in another car and had to dodge the bouncing motor. Saw it all unfold before my eyes lol.

That's basically what I was imagining in my head, I also read in Hot Rod magazine about some guys who pulled a 442 from a barn and it happened to start up with a new battery. They then decided it was a good idea to do burnouts in a car that laid dormant for 20+ years...... It broke in half
