As I have followed many of the great members here providing their guidance, knowledge, and insights to modding an SAK, I have slowly begun to understand springs and tool combinations, while learning about pins and peening (truly an art). Thank you team!
My focus is pretty much on the 84's, and being a simple guy, I'm only looking to mod a few specific knives that work for me. I don't really like big knives in my pocket; I've been comfortable carrying my 70's Champ and a Buck Ranger on my belt since I was a pup. Cadets and Golfers; big blade, opener of some type, scissors, and phillips meet my pocket-carry requirements.
I like corkscrews for my outdoor experiences; a phillips for urban carry. The old magnifying glass is useful while the new one is much less so. I know that many here want the saw, but I have other tools that take care of that need. And the hook, while useful to some, is useless for me.
I'll also be doing some work with Compacts (I have 2 or 3), but only to remove the hook and replace with the awl.
Here are a couple that I've modified as I get going...a Waiter turned into an Apprentice and a 84mm Golfer with the corkscrew replaced by the phillips.
