Poor Man's Atwood Tool
on: February 01, 2015, 04:36:03 AM
I will never be able to afford an Atwood, new or used.  The next best thing to one of these for me is the Screwpop combo that I found at Tractor Supply for about $6.  It includes a wrench tool with prybar/screwdriver and hex bit wrench, a bottle opener with magnetically held hexbit driver insert, and a small flashlight for keyring use.  I know the tools are very cheaply made, but I took the hexbit and used some O-rings to hold it within the wrench cutout of the wrench tool.  Not the best quality, but sure beats paying $50 and up for something that wont be used all that often.

That is actually a good tool. I picked one up across the river last time I was in Sault Michigan at the TSC store. As far as the Atwood prices...much higher than 50 buck upwards.  :tu:

By the way, welcome to the forums.  :salute:

Is this a one piece tool? I looked on tsc website and couldnt find anything called screwpop, but i did see LM WAVE advertised for 19.99!! But only in some stores, and more than likely out of stock

Thank you for the welcome!  I will try to get a photo of the little "mod" I did with the O-rings.  In the meantime, I just noticed that there is a post about the Screwpop tools at http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,50419.0.html.  I should have searched a little better before I posted...

EDIT:  Attached are some pics of what was in the package and the little O-ring "mod" that I did to hold captive the hex bit...

I did not see it on the website myself.  However, several packages of the combo were in the display tables as soon as I entered the store, near the registers.  Maybe it is one of those items that aren't shown on website but only in the brick store.

Here is the link to Screwpop's website for the wrench: http://screwpoptool.com/wrench.html

The one I got at Tractor Supply here in east Tennessee USA is SAE, but the Screwpop site says that Metric tools are available.  Like I said, I got the wrench, light, and screwdriver for $6.

Looks good to me.

I love cheap tools like these.

I have a hard time using those expensive little tools.

Welcome to MTO gsutton.
I don't think there are too many Atwood fans here, I hope.

I can't afford an Atwood, but I do appreciate his workmanship.  The Screwpop (and other lower cost tools) is a really good compromise for many of us.
