I need some Book Recomendations
on: February 05, 2015, 01:07:46 AM
Hey yall, my dad came home with good news! We are leaving tonight for another alabama trip!

I need some good book recomendations.

Preferred outdoor, hiking, fishing, etc...as far as Genre goes.

I've read "A Walk in the woods" and every book Gary Paulsen has ever written.

My Side of the Mountain? I read it quite some time ago, but I enjoyed it very much.

I read it in 10th grade but I won't mind reading it again. I know I read a sequel to it as well but I never finished it!

Yeah but I can't remember why I didn't finish it!

I know I also read "The Dangerous Book for Boys" which is a classic.

As well as pretty much every tutorial fishing book I could find.

For anyone interested in bass fishing I Highly highly HIGHLY recommend Homer Circles "Bass Wisdom"

Great book and more details then you'll ever want to know about bass.

But, I could read it again :D

I hate to be so hipster. But I prefer an ebook in the shooting house, easier to see the text.

If you enjoyed 'A walk in the woods' I'd recommend all Bryson's other books too - you learn so much.

What about 'Rogue Male'? That's a great read: http://www.amazon.com/Rogue-Male-Review-Books-Classics/dp/1590172434/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1423127732&sr=8-1&keywords=rogue+male

Blurb:

1930-something: a professional hunter is passing through an unnamed Central European country that is in the thrall of a vicious dictator. The hunter wonders whether he can penetrate undetected into the dictator’s private compound. He does. He has the potential target in his sites and is wondering whether to pull the trigger when security catches up with him. Imprisoned, tortured, doomed to a painful death, the hunter makes an extraordinary and harrowing escape, fleeing through enemy territory to the safety of his native England. But that safety is delusive: his pursuers will not be diverted from their revenge by national borders; the British government cannot protect him without seeming to endorse his deed. The hunter must flee society, and he goes literaly underground, like a fox to its earth. The hunter has become the hunted.  :dwts:

Robinson Crusoe?
Call of the Unknown (a French book by Robert Vergnes - my favourite adventure book ever)?
It's a semi-real story about a guy who goes to Panama jungles to rob graves, than scales down an active volcano, than explores all sorts of hidden caves and temples and in the end gets stranded on an island for 2 years, while hunting for treasure...

I like the sound of that one. Hunting for treasure always comes back to bite you on the bum.

Papillon is one of my all-time favourites. Makes you want to jump into the sea on a sack full of coconuts and escape...

Look up Patrick McManus - just don't read while others are trying to sleep :)

Tim Dorsey has some great gonzo literature.  His gonzo character Surge Storm is hilarious. Read them in order.  They make more sense.

Here's an interesting hiking book, "The Man who Walked Through Time', about exploring the Grand Canyon.

Not what I'm looking for?? I read both the "Old man and the sea" as well as "the young man and the sea" and even watched a documentary on it!
