New guy staring at a disassembled wingman
on: March 16, 2015, 04:08:28 AM
I took apart my wingman and I'm trying to put it back together...really just trying to see if I can do it. Got to start somewhere, right. I can't get the plier head to put the necessary pressure on the spring that is needed to get the pin through so that it connects to an arm. Anyone got any advice for a new guy.

Put a screwdriver through the one pivot holes on the jaws, gives you more to push or pull against.

Or close the jaws around the screwdriver and place both handles on in the closed position.

You should be able to press down on the handles and push the post through.

A vice or vice-grips also work.

Hope that helps.

Many Leatherman tools utilize a ramp to increase tension as the handles open, so when the tool is to be actually used the plier head is fairly securely held against the handles. This increasing force as the handles open is the main reason it can be hard to push the pins through.
So, generally, it's easiest to assemble Leatherman and many other plier based multi's when they are in the fully closed position.
