After searching I really thought there would be more interest in kydex! I've had salsmurfer fishing on my mind..........And leather will absorb the salsmurfer and rust anything I put in it way too quickly. So I was thinking kydex will definetly not hold water, and I'm almost certain the florida sun won't have a huge effect on it. Plus it's light, and I'll likely be jumping in and out of the water and around the boat! Has anyone made their own kydex products? Sheets are fairly cheap?

I was always wondering about them, but would worry about a knife or mt falling out the top, unlike a reg leather sheath JR

The retention is fantastic with an audible click to let me know the tool is secure. Adjustments can be made by heating the material up, I also believe the material is more wear resistant than most other materials.
Yes and I still make some from time to time .
I'm still not sure how I am going to form it.

Would a heat gun get hot enough?

Would a heat gun get hot enough?Kinda lol, the kydex has to reach 350 degrees to really form well,so I'll use a toaster oven for that. The heat gun is used for minor adjustments and to warm the foam and the item being pressed. Just so the heat doesn't transfer as fast. My problem is I'm not doing a 2 dimensional mold. It's 3 dimensional, I need something that can wrap and curve. Which is the hard part.....

Could you make one side and then the other?
