Bed-Lined/Textured Charge AL Scales.
on: March 19, 2015, 08:53:53 PM
So as some know I painted my bumper with Black Raptor Liner by UPol. Well I had an extra set of scales laying around so I thought I would shoot them and see how they came out.

I spray the bumper about 18" away and 90psi for a rough texture. I dropped the psi to 40 and sprayed about 6" away so they would be "flat" or less textured.

Came out extremely well, seems like it bonded very very well to the scale. I am kinda worried how well they Will handle the knurled bits.

The extra pit of orange was orange primer I layed down then sanded off, the original project was to have black scales with orange in all the "grooved lines" that create the leatherman logo and decorative lines. But it didn't work out.

Pics of truck, and now scales that match :D

Yeahhhh, I realized that once I was inside

I've seen a few black bed lined trucks. I just want to know why they chose black in florida. Their AC must love them.

I will eventually be painting mine either 2 tone white paint/black bed liner. Or custom panel paint job. (Father was a an auto spray guy for 10 years)

Picture 2" of black around EVERY seam. Not like a Zebra, more like a black truck with white rounded corner panels.

I think both the "bumper" (understatement of the month calling that thing a bumper) and scales look great. I was thinking of doing something similar to my Wingman so it wouldn't be so slippery in my sweaty hands

Still haven't installed them.....

I may tonight. I just hate fiddling with the knurled screws. With a passion.

Those look good. Wonder how that will work on a Wave or Spirit?

It'd be a little more difficult but probably possible.

You would have to acid etch the metal for sure on a wave before being sprayed.

And it might be difficult to spray into all the edges without it "globbing"

A spirit would be pretty easy. Quick sanding then a quick once over.

Looks good. Only downside? I was SOOOOOOO CLOSE to having the inner tool post line back up and slide through when everything including the washers fell out.......well I got most of it in but I moved the washer between the flathead and small bit driver. Smurf it.

I already scrubbed some material off....FAIL

Thanks yall.

I kinda sorta may have broken my pocket clip...................

So it might be awhile before I'm able to attest to the durability of the actual spray.

As soon as I can find a spacer, I will be trying to trade this for a surge....

The bedliner is awesome. I'm not in love with the tool though.

I like the wrapping of the one hand hole.
Does it help give purchase for one hand opening?  It looks like it would.
Would you explain how this was done?
Thanks!
PM me if you want one of my kidneys for your SOG TiNi multitool.

OK, both my kidneys.

It definetly helps. I'm not a fan of the hole on any tool. So my main blade on my Charge and Wave are both wrapped with mini-paracord.

And my skeletool has a "kwik stud" on it.

This is one of the best step by step demonstrations on how exactly to wrap it.
