I thought black Alox red shield pioneers were hard to come by?

There are black Alox red shield pioneers on Amazon for $38.  For some reason I thought these were harder to come by. Is it really the type of thing where you can pay an extra $10 and pick one up without any difficulty, or is this Amazon listing something to take note of?

That's a recent thing. They used to cost more and were harder to get.

Thanks. Asking more out of curiosity than anything else.  I often carry a barely used black Alox pioneer so I couldnt justify the purchase just for the different color shield.  However, if I ever pull the trigger on a 93mm mod, this may very we'll be the donor.

  • I may get older but I refuse to grow up.
I think they are marketed only for Europe so you have to order them from sellers here willing to ship to the US. They are however readily available here. Got mine for $24 with my last order from Vic.

Yea, I got some of those from them on Ebay last week. I read the thread title wrong, I thought you had found cheap red pioneers somewhere!

I've had bad experience with Seitz-Global.  They do not use adequate packing materials, no bubble wrap or anything.  Just a cardboard envelope.  My box was crushed flat and the knife was rolling around inside separated from it on 2 occasions.  In one case the scales were scratched.

I know Amazon will eventually make it right.

Too bad, they have stuff no one else does.
PM me if you want one of my kidneys for your SOG TiNi multitool.

OK, both my kidneys.

I have ordered from them and their packaging sucks. Exactly as you described. I am lucky they have not gotten crushed enough for the knife to come out though.

That's a good point. All 3 of the knives I ordered fell out of the flimsy Victorinox box and were sliding around the Seitz package. It is lucky they weren't wrecked up or lost.

Yes, they were more expensive awhile back. When I bought one for the collection.

I saw the one and only Black Alox Pioneer with red shield about one month ago in an outdoor equipment exhibition...it cost around USD 37. I don't buy it that day. When I returned the next day, that Alox was already sold! Oh my....

They are available here in South Africa. Sharp edge has them listed as new on the website.

Very nice looking knife.

Finding them at a good price (with shipping) can be a challenge.  I recently was able to get one on the bay (within the last 2 weeks), including shipping, for the price you were quoting off amazon in April.

Their packaging (seitz) leaves a lot to be desired as described by others in this thread.  Mine came in good shape, though slightly squashed.  But you have to like the colored shield against the black background!

So,everyone is paying $20.00 to $30.00 for the red paint in the shield.

The whole knife here costs $35.08. Green, Red, Orange and Blue are $34.67 (Normal same colour shields). I assume that the difference in pricing is due to Rand/Dollar exchange fluctuation as the red shield black one is marked as "new" and seems to have landed at a slightly higher price.

Other than this small difference they are not at a premium.

Its just too good looking I had to get one. :poh: :poh:

This is an alox colour combination that makes sense to me like the standard silver knives with a red shield. And I bet this combination looks really good when its a bit weathered.

Well, that didn't last. They had the red shield black pioneers for about $50 US on Ebay last. Also, the green farmers Seitz global had for about 39-44 on Ebay and Amazon now are $100 from Seitz. He has a couple of green cadets for $85-$95. Didn't they have pink cadets for 30 Euros? No more deals from them I guess.

Very nice indeed. I can kind of see the appeal of coloured alox now.

Can't help with black alox/red shield, but Knifecenter.com has several red alox (of course with their name on plaque - a couple strokes with red magic marker fixes that :-)
