Hello all,

I used to have a made in USA Schrade Old Timer, similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Schrade-7OT-Timer-Cave-Bear/dp/B000IE7QYQ/ref=pd_bxgy_sg_text_z

Alas, it has been lost to the mists of time for many years. Hopefully I'll find it again one day (when I'm looking for something else).
However, for now it will serve as a excuse  :twak: carefully considered reason to buy a replacement.

As you all know, Schrade aren't made in the USA any more. The made in China ones don't seem to be as well regarded as the old ones.

So, what would you all suggest as a suitable replacement? Requirements:

-Similar style / looks to the one in the Amazon link
-NOT one hand opening (no thumbstuds etc) otherwise I can't purchase it from overseas due to our wonderful customs
-Around a 3" blade (slightly longer is fine though)

Maybe I'm simply after a Buck 110?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Edit: if its appropriate to ask, I'd even be happy to buy a suitable used piece from a member on here providing it was in excellent condition.

The Chinese Schrades seem to be getting better. You just have to see them as a totally different, low cost, brand, rather than a continuation of the old Schrade.

Also, a Buck 110 in  paperstone, to get the same knife without the heft.

Depending on what you want and what country of origin you want you may also look at GECs models (e.g. the 23 line or for a solid lower cost knife the F&F line -see if you want SS or Carbon steel), Rough Rider locking models etc.

The is a thread on backlock knives in the edged forum (there is a link in my signature line too) where you can see a few options

Nothing wrong with the Buck 110. Still a pretty good knife. Although for myself, I'd want one of the older models that still has plenty of life left in it. Just like the older models better and they seem to have been built a little better. But that could all be in my head too.

The older Case models are decent knives as well. And older Schrades are around as well.

Don't know if you eBay, but there's a bunch on there. Just find a seller with good feedback.

Thanks for your reply, I'll take all that on board.

To clarify a couple of things:

-I don't mind so much about country as I do quality. Made in China is fine, for example, as long as the product is good.
-Thank you- 'lockback' was the word I was looking for but couldn't remember
-The GECs look like great products, but a little on the pricey side by the time I get one to Australia.

I think as a starting point I'll keep my eyes peeled on ebay etc for a good second-hand USA Schrade or Buck. I might even order a Chinese Schrade just to see- they are cheap after all (cheers Joe58, jsut saw your reply as I was typing this, will do! If you have any particular suggestions for sellers that would be welcome for something like a Buck 110).
