I keep my nails very short and I have no problem opening the X scissors, and the standard size, precise, and durable Vic scissors I regard as the best ever made. But I still think it was a rather unfortunate error on Vic's part.

Ya the nail nick bugs me, but its awsome to have a factory made spring for scissors.

This is my path to use the new parts for now and I will do it a few times to end up with some 'backups'

Buy...
1.  Pioneer X
2.  111mm OHO Trekker
3.  111mm outrider

Do...
1.  Take scissors / phillips layer from outrider
2.  Reassemble to now have a new 111mm rucksak to sell or use
3.  Replace pioneer x scissors with scissors from outrider, put on my black scales and brass liners.
4.  Add Scissors backspring and phillips from outrider, and scissors from pioneer x to OHO trekker.  The layer will go between saw layer and blade layer.

This gives me...
1. A nice pioneer x with nail nick on proper side and factory made backspring.
2. A OHO with scissors!  The only spot to add a scissors layer on a OHO is in this spot and the normal scissors have the nail nick on the wrong side, so the pioneer x scissors are perfect!

Be happy.  :D :D :D

A bright side for sure Syph, looking forward to a liner lock with scissors, I've been thinking that would be great for a while! Also, comparing the springs, your custom ones look better to me, esp. since I know the QC guy was there that day.  ;)

I built an electrician with scissors today and I made an interesting observation. The electrician blade is bent much more towards the center than the can opener and it also sticks up higher. With the nail nick on the wrong side on the pioneer x, I dont think we will see an electrician x as it would be very difficult to open.

Also changing the side the scissors pivot won't work, the main blade would block the nick. Having to open any blades to deploy the scissors sounds hazardous. No factory Electrician X, but an Electrician Plus X might be possible with the right layout. (assuming they use those scissors).

I hope they do some colors on this soon, but I bet they'll milk the initial silver release before milking various colors each year.

A thought occurred to me.  Vic said that they moved the nail nick so employees didnt mix up these scissors with the normal ones since they have different pivot hole sizes.  BUT... the wood saws from farmers are identical to the 91mm ones except for hole pivot size and they manage those ok.... SO... I still think they wanted 'factory' ones to be easily identified from 'custom' ones.  That is the only reason I can come up with that makes any sense.

I would say that's a fair assessment. I still think they could tell from the pivot pin fairly easily though. I have yet to see a custom SAK that was done anywhere near as perfect as Victorinox's machines do them. Its a dead giveaway in my opinion, but maybe I just have not seen pics of perfectly done aftermarket pivots pins.

I'm in no way saying you are wrong as I would tent to agree with your assumption.  :tu:

Or it's so they can slip a saw in between the scissor and the knife, making a 4 layer Farmer X.
