Grathr, I am really impressed with the way you remove rust off blades...you said you use Soda (Coke)?  Please, can you educate me on this process? I have a Mora coming with some rust on the blade and would like to try this.

I just finished this with an old crescent wrench. Just soak it,  in my case diet coke over night . The rust dissolves away just like that.

this. I use diet cola too (less messy), the cheap stuff usually works best in my experience.
also I use quite bit of steel wool afterwards to remove the remainig rust.

Well, the test knife is here and I found an old Mountain Dew in the back of a fridge so assuming it's the carbonation that removes the rust, I guess I'll try it tonight.

The Mora is an old capped Broderna - Jonsson with a brown plastic sheath (not the typical fiber ones these older knives usually have).

The Mountian Dew worked GREAT!!!!!!!!!! It not only removed the rust in 8 hours but heavily patinaed the blade (almost like vinegar) due no doubt to the citrus component in the soda.  I rinsed it off then cleaned off the heavy patina with Flitz and.......it was perfect!!!!!!  Thanks Grathr!!!!!!!! :salute:

Great job on the resto and sheath. I have a rusty folder I need to fix up somehow and I didn't think it would ever come out. Seeing your pics I feel better about trying but since it is a folder I can't leave it submerged in Coke so I am going to try polishing the rust away with steel wool and metal polish and if that doesn't work, potatoes or lemons.

Thank you.   Grathr, you have taught me a valuable skill. 40+ years of using and collecting knives and I had never heard of this technique.
