So this is how my quest started...

Buy android phones/tablets, and they come with the tiny charing cable to plug into the charger.  It works and charges fast, but is SOOO short.  So I buy a 10ft usb to micro usb cable.  It charges but actually at a rate so slow it wont charge it faster than it drains.. WHAT THE HECK!

So I research and learn that you need a 2 Amp cable to handle the 2 Amp current the charger puts out.  You can determine what cables can handle the amperage if they are speced to 28/24 AWG with ferrite core.

So I do my googling and order 2 of each brand I find.  Well some werent branded but specs that way.  Long story short I found the best one that is the cheapest combination of cost / high charging capaicity.

Monoprice 10ft cable!  I had some other ones that worked well too but were $15-$20 each (Anker).

On ebay they are here

They can be found on amazon too.

So if you want a fast charging long cable and dont want to waste time trying every one you can find, just grab a couple of these, they work great.  :D  I have used them with my 2 Amp wall plug and 2 amp car adapters and they charge my devices super fast.

  • Wooooo!
Oh I may have to grab one or two of these.  Our new phones seem to drain more quickly than I like.  Thanks for the info and time put into the research buddy :salute:

Ya I actually ended up buying them from amazon as shipping was cheaper.

I see them on amazon uk too.

people do not appreciate the value of good wires/cables in all applications.

Low quality wires have a lot of resistance, can be affected by noise and can even melt/catch fire.

OK so long story made short. I tether my Samsung S3 for internet on my laptop. How well would these cords work for tethering? I assume better because they charge faster. Just wondering.

I believe that will depend on the output of the usb port.

Thanks Whoey
May be I should start a new thread. I looked at my computer and 2 of my usb ports are 3.0. I know I am limited by the speed of the processor on my phone for internet. When I hook my phone to my computer with a dead battery the internet barely works so I thought maybe a new better cord would help.

Given the age of a S3, is the battery ok and does it charge well when plugged in with a wall wart?

USB3 ports should charge it faster than regular ports with a proper cable.

I think I will just order a new cord if nothing else I will have a spare. The battery will last all day with out charging but most likely needs replaced. So maybe I will just get both. After my phone carrier went to limited data I stayed with my old plan with unlimited data so now I have to buy my phones instead of free upgrades. That is why I still have the S3 which I bought new from Ebay. The only other internet choice I have here is satellite and that sucks worse than what I have.
Thanks for your input Whoey.   :tu:

I get it. I bought my Nexus 4 for similar reasons, I was tired of them offering inferior phones and tacking on an extra per month. At least you can swap the battery in your S3, something I can't do easily in my Nexus4. A new battery probably won't hurt, and you can still keep the old one as a backup. You might also want to see about getting an external charger for the battery since with 2 batteries you can have one charge while you use the other. That will also likely charge faster than any usb connection.
