Ebay, and the copies...1911 Holster comparison.
on: September 16, 2015, 02:07:44 AM
When I bought my 1911 from a very reputable store online, I started to look for holsters. I found the cheapest holster that would fit my 1911 handgun off of eBay and bought that, figuring nothing ventured, nothing gained. Then the handgun came in, and I found another holster I bought wouldn't fit the Norinco 1911A1, but fit my GI 1911 Winchester BB gun to a T. Because I wanted to compete with the 45, I found another holster when I visited another city. That holster is a Blackhawk serpa 2 concealment holster. What I didn't know was the cheapest eBay holster advertized to fit a 1911 is the same exact holster as the one I found in that gun shop.

Well as you know from the title, when I got the cheap holster in the mail today, I had a good laugh. The packaging was not the nice hard shell see through plastic of the real Blackhawk product. No, this fake came in a cheap vinyl baggy with a cheap light cardboard tag haphazardly stapled to the vinyl baggy.

The cardboard had this printed on one side...

But the best was the other side.

Seriously...Honor as a way of Lite?!?!

Well seeing that I already had a real Blackhawk holster, I just had to compare the real thing to the fake.

Can you tell which is the real Blackhawk? There are some subtle differences here, but the fake is fairly close to the real thing...even though if you felt them in your hands, the real things is heavier and built to a better quality standard.

Looking at the back, it becomes more apparent which is the real thing.

Now look at the paddles that come with them. Note that the real Blackhawk has a much nicer larger, and sturdier paddle. The cheap little one that came with the fake is hilariously flimsy and flexible.

Here we see the cheap fake from eBay. I have to say, the locking mechanism is much nicer than the real thing as I find it easier to press down and remove the handgun. With that said, I am sure it won't last.

The real Blackhawk is of much higher quality. The locking mechanism is stiffer and not as nice as the cheap fake...but I imagine it will feel better with time.

So there you have it. I think it is rather funny that I would order a holster off of eBay because it is the cheapest holster I could find online, and then get the real thing, all the time forgetting what I had originally ordered online. Well if nothing else, you can get a good laugh at the fake. I can't honestly complain however, as I only paid around 12 bucks for the fake. The paddle is super cheap and crappy, but the holster itself is not all that bad. I do like the locking mechanism's feel on the fake compared to the real thing. I guess as a backup holster, it won't do all that bad after-all. Meantime, I am going to enjoy the real Blackhawk...and possibly appreciate it all the more because of that fake. Does that make any sense?  :D
