Megan's No-Life Giveaway!
on: October 08, 2015, 12:26:41 PM
It's here! And I think I finally feel like one of you guys ;)
This forum is an amazing outlet for me. I love discussing outdoor gear and I rarely have great places to do so. I've also had the pleasure of learning a ton.

I lurked here for years before becoming a member. Grant gave me a pink MTO Tool Clip and the address was etched on the blade. That's when I started following SOG and MTO. And by then I was hooked.

There isn't a better resource for asking MT or SAK related questions- period. There are plenty of websites where folks are calling themselves experts and they are not. However, MTO is a village of knowledge on both MTs and SAKs. If you can't get MT/SAK answers here- you won't find them anywhere.

When Grant told me to become a member so I could join the family I didn't quite get what he was talking about. But I do now. I think I've been assimilated.  :assimilate:

I love the forum and I am really excited for some of the things we have planned to launch over the next couple months or so!

That being said- enough with the mush and on to the GIVEAWAY!

I am giving away a Opinel #08 Outdoor Knife (Sea/Mountain Edition)
The back of this knife describes all of the wonderful things it is good for such as: mountaineering, trekking, canyoning, potholing, paragliding, sailing and nautical activities.

Well, that's certainly something. Potholing, I had to google.

HOW TO WIN:
1) You need a minimum of 45 posts. Don't have 45 posts? Great! Get posting. You have a whole week.

2) Quote your very first post here at MTO and tell me why you love it here.

You have until Thursday, October 15th at 12pm Forum Time!
And then we will pick someone at random and ship them this great little knife!

Good luck!
-Megan

What a surprise, my first post is a list entry...

This is what I like here: the generousity. Folks here allow newbies to be a part of the family, they welcome everyone, they have an extremely high tolerance to sillyness and nonsensicality.

There are people here that know more about some brands and tools than the firms that produce them and yet they are willing to share this knowledge and answer whatever (sometimes dumb) questions noobs (and old geezers like myself) post here.

There's always someone willing to help, to offer advice, to care for others.

What can I say, this place is just the best place to hang out in the whole interwebs.

That's awesome, congrats Megan! It feels so nice to know there are more females around, lol :D

==== Okay, so I do have more than 45 posts...  aaaaaaaaand my very first post here, well, it's rather longish, so I'll just link it, I guess: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,25135.msg588579.html#msg588579

Well, ok, to qualify, here's the quote:

Hey, everyone :)

I've had the Style CS for a couple of months now (a gift by a friend) and I'd also like to share my thoughts on it. First of all, I've just got into multi tools and I'm not an expert, nor am I trying to convince anyone in anything.

I've been quite torn apart between the "do-I-like-it-or-not" options. What I dislike is purely related to the design- I do not drink anything that can be opened with the type of a bottle opener the CS offers, therefore it's just unnecessary length/space/bulk/weight for me. Althought the carabiner is sometimes useful, I don't like its general "flimsiness". I prefer carrying my multi tool in my pocket/wallet. In other words, the entire bottle opener/carabiner thing is useless and unnecessary for me.

I also dislike the plastic black part on the tool just for being... plastic. It makes it look and feel rather cheap.

The tweezers are REALLY difficult to take out for me. I keep my nails short and I have never ever been able to take the tweezers out without the help of another tool/sth sharp & pointed.

The two tiny holes on the blade that are meant as a design pattern can often get full of dirt and if you cut sth with the blade, the holes tend to get full of the "material".

That being said, let's move to something more positive: I adore the blade itself. It's really really sharp. It's good that it's also available from the outside.

The scissors are also very good.

The tweezers, functionally, are AWESOME- when I manage to take them out, lol, they're outstanding. They can catch even barely visible hairs/fuzzes.

I've rarely used the screwdriver and almost never use files, but I think they work just fine.

So, my general thoughts are that... I'd gladly exchange my Style CS for another tool of about the same size if I had the chance to. I'm actually buying one used, but very very very good looking Micra from Ebay... it at least doesn't have the additional length in the carabiner/bottle opener and the holes on the knife, which will keep it kind of.. cleaner. I'm not sure the tweezers will be so good, but oh well.

Thanks for reading :)

===== What I love about MTO is ..... the understanding I see here. Apart from what the forum is devoted to, there are a lot of People people.

Well, heres a shock, my first post was in the new member forum.

Hi guys, im Steven from Texas, and I've actually been browsing for a couple days. Mostly im interested in Modding some Leatherman's (and collecting more!!!), but I have been looking at SAKs again because of this site. My first multi was a SAK my dad got me (Explorer I think?) for joining Boy Scouts, followed by a LM Kick a few years later. Since then ive aquired a Sidekick, and recently, an Original Wave (in bad shape, might I add). Ill probably be posting to the modding forum soon, but I already feel like this community is going to be great, based on what I have read so far

I love MT.O because of the collective knowledge base that is freely available to anyone who asks, and how no one is made to feel bad about asking. I feel like my comments here are welcomed and accepted, rather than criticised like many other places. Plus, I get to learn about multitools! For example, since this first post, I have learned my first SAK was a Spartan, nit an Explorer.

Leatherman Tools / Hello everyone - My 1st post
« on: February 04, 2010, 22:02:04 »
Hello!

I've been reading this forum for a little while and would like to introduce myself.

I'm Steve, from Jacksonville Florida and have been collecting multi-tools for many years. My EDC's are LM Wave and a Micra, though I'm very fond of the ST300 and Gerber Diesel.  :D

My collection is mostly LM but also includes Gerber, SOG, Buck, Victorinox (as well as some less heard of names).

Thanks for having me!

I love MTO because it's a great place to discuss and learn about my favorite things (SAKs & MTs) :D
It's also where most of my friends are; my extended family as I like to think of you guys

I'm not entering, but in the spirit of the game, here is my first post:

Welcome to the new Forum Software for Multitool.org.  Please bear with us while we set things up here, but in the meantime feel free to post and test out the options that are available to you. At this point, I welcome any comments and suggestions as we build the new forum into what we are hoping will be the best independant multitool reference source in the world!

I don't think it counts since it was posted before the forum even opened.   :ahhh

Cool idea for a giveaway and congrats on not having a life ;) I love MTO because I have not found any people in real life that will talk about multis and knives without giving me the suspicious eyebrow. Also, this is handily the friendliest and most respectful online forum ever. Additionally, the wealth of knowledge and experience with all things multi is such a great resource to be able to tap into.

Not surprisingly, from the New Member Forum...

Welp, I have been "lurking" for several months, now. Thought I would introduce myself. My name is Russell and I am nursing a minor addiction to multitools. :-[ I own a Gerber MP400 BO, red and green Dimes. Also, a Letherman Cabelas 50th anniversary Wave, Wingman, Skeletool, Squirt PS4, bit kit, and bit extender. I have two lights: Letherman Monarch 200 & 300.

So my current MT plan is as follows: EDC work - Wave & Monarch300, EDC home - Skeletool, Wife's Van - MP400, my truck - Wingman, Wife's purse - Dime, my keychain - Dime & Monarch200. Since I have all my bases covered, I do not need anymore MTs...  ;)

What is kind of funny is that my first post was almost a year exactly from when I first discovered MTO (I bought the Wave at Cabelas in July 2011, then got online to discover what I got).

Not surprisingly, I have added many new tools and several knives since
