My First Opinel--No. 6
on: October 14, 2015, 02:29:17 AM
Today, I was at a local department store chain, Magic Mart, that just so happens to have an acceptable selection of pocketknives.  I looked at the Opinel knives, and found this one, the No. 6 for $10.  The main reason being, I wanted an Opinel for my collection.  I figured they'd be too pretty too carry.  But, the knife is light, razor sharp, and has an ambidextrous locking mechanism that's easy to use.  In addition, it fits my hand perfectly, and the blade isn't too big nor too small.    I picked carbon, as it can be sharpened using a ceramic stone very quickly.

No knife collection would be complete without at least one Opinel. :tu:

Most peoples' knife rotation would benefit from one, too. I usually end up giving mine away when someone sees me carry one.

Opinels are great.  I carry a non-locking carbon No. 5 a lot.  The 6 IMO is the perfect Opi.  Not too big, not too small.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

My first was a 6 as well.  It's a great size blade and the carbon will patina nicely over time.

Great choice and you won't regret it. They are a perfect pocket knife and so easy to keep sharp.

Congrats  :tu:

You've reminded me that I've not carried my No6 in a long time.  Went in my pocket this morning after a quick touch up on a fine stone and strop.
