UK Knife crime makes news in Australia !
on: August 19, 2008, 01:10:45 PM
The morning news on the radio this morning , mentioned the problem of youth stabbings in London. I think it made the news predominately because the high profile nature of the sports men calling for a stop to knife crime , David Becham being the most famous. I am surprised it made news in Australia , I am interested to know is it part of Youth culture to carry knives ? Is it becoming more popular to carry a knife in the youth scene? What kind of knives are they carrying & what knives are being used to harm people? The sources I have read talk about 23 deaths in London this year from knife/shooting crime . I think carrying a MT or knife is going to get even tougher in the UK  :o

It's all cheap ass kitchen knives that are doing the actually killings ::)

There are a lot of youths carrying blade's, but there still a small minority overall. It's just the media and politicians have latched onto it with a vengence >:(, there are no more killings than normal, it's just a lot higher profile now that various scumbags are using it for political/career gain, meanwhile poor sod's like me keep getting the noose tightend :(

It's only a matter of time before zero tolerence of non 100% legal knives comes into effect imo :(
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Not good mate.Be interested if Victorinox or other manufactures are applying any common sense pressure . I would have thought the size of the UK market for MT/knives would warrant some kind of fight from the knife makers . Or is it easier for them to focus on their other markets  >:(

The solution is simple: ban ALL pointy/cutting tools. That includes kitchen knives, razors, box cutters, chisels, saws, icepicks, etc.

But by all means continue to be lenient towards "juvenile offenders."

Almost always kitchen knives, but as usual the useless "ban everything" mindset among the usual suspects grows & grows  ::)

When Left-wing politicians are allowed to get away with using terms like "knife crime" and "gun crime" unchallenged, then rational debate is lost and the demagouges usually win.

There is no such thing as "knife crime" although there are plenty of people who commit brutal crimes using knives.

Politicians allow these criminals to roam free to prey on innocent citizens, then deflect the blame from themselves onto inanimate objects such as knives and guns.

To get a better idea of how these demagouges operate, read the excellent short essay "Politics and the English Language" by George Orwell:
