Any particular shortcoming with the Wave?  Some have added Rebar plier head which might serve you well if you are using the wire cutters a lot.  Add S30V blade?

Upgrade from the Wave, I don't think so unless you are finding some shortcomings with the tool IMO.  If you are itching to get another tool then maybe go up in size?  Swisstool, ST300 ( you loose scissors ), or the Wave's big brother SURGE.

Definitely love the wave, but yea its the itch for a new and if possible better tool, definitely need the interchangeable bits, better wire cutters, need the blades and saws, don't care for the scissors or can opener(beer can be opened with anything).

Maybe a new Wave then? ;) you'll get a new decent tool + a set of spare parts for repairs just in case :) I also added a 154cm blade to mine

If you have no shortcomings with the Wave then the logical upgrade is a Charge ALX if you do not want scissors. You get an additional bit driver instead and better steel on the main blade. The plier head is cap crimper type which some don't like.

If you don't mind a slightly bigger tool then the Surge because you will get all the tools of the Wave plus replaceable cutters and an Awl which is very useful to me. But you do lose the small bit driver in the new Surge. The old Surge has the small bit driver but no replaceable cutters.

Another option is the OHT. Just throwing this out there because some love it because all the tools deploy from the outside. But the blade and saw are on the short side though. No scissors and no bit drivers but I think there is a bit driver adapter you can attach to the phillips. Not 100% certain about this.

Unfortunately for you all these will come with a bottle/can opener. On the plus side you can use it as a back scratcher if you know you will not use it on food and beverages  :D

Sounds like the surge is what you are looking for. Bit driver,  blade exhanger, larger blade, huge outside accessible scissors. Go for it

I remember I went for a Surge after Wave.

I did the same thing and I love them both.

Crunch is a really neat tool.
Surge is IMO is hard to beat.

What about a SAK?  Maybe an Explorer Plus?

Aloha how's the BO handling?

A Surge is my Next goodie but I can't decide between BO or SS.

My Wave actually is more worn.  The Surge is holding up really well but I got a weird thumb print on it one day ( you can see it in the pic ).  You can see the marks on my ST300 but not bad IMO.  I feel the BO looks nice when worn.  I also didn't get black hands from any of my BO tools.  I got the Surge and ST300 new too.

After my Wave I upgraded to a Charge TTi, partly because I have a thing for anything Titanium, so far it has served me quite well. As others have mentioned if you want a "bigger" tool the SuperTool 300 is the way to go, but as far as something comparable to the Wave I would recommend the Charge ALX or one of the other Charges.

Just my two cents but let us know what you decide on! :)
Leatherman:
Charge TTI, Wave, Kick, Skeletool, Style, Brewster, Juice C2, PST II

Victorinox:
Sport, Driver, Tinker, Traveler Lite, Cybertool Lite, Swisschamp, XAVT

Update:: still debating but it's between charge AXL (expensive) old surge with the eyeglass screwdriver bit holder, swisstool spirit looks tempting but I'm sticking to LM a lil longer. :multi:

The Charge is my favorite LM (although in my case its the TTi).

Old vs. New Surge: Personally, I would go for the new Surge, I think the Surge is too heavy for the eye-glass screwdriver. What you can do is stick a Vic small screwdriver (or any small-screwdriver) in your LM bit-card and have a stand-alone mini-screwdriver which I think works much better.

Charge/Surge VS. Spirit: I think the two tools follow a different design idea. The Charge/Surge are more modular with bit holder (and blade-holder) whereas the Spirit is much more a stand alone tool (more like the Rebar).
The Spirit Offers:
- Extra long tools with lots of reach
- Pry-Tool that deserves the name
- Chisel
- Medium scissors
- All outside tools
- Flat long design which I find more pocket-friendly

Charge Offers:
- Bit Holder (personally, I find it only useful in combination with the bit-extender)
- OHO Blades
- Diamond File

Surge Offers:
- Bit Holder
- OHO blades
- Big scissors
- Blade Exchanger (another tool that requires accessories. Best tool if you cut/file a lot of metal)

I think the decision should be based on your usage (or simply take the Spirit :D)

Lots of metal filing/sawing: Definitely the Surge
Mostly blade: Charge for the OHO blade with higher quality steel
Lots of different bit sizes but fairly infrequent: LM with bit kit (small package)
Lots and often of different bit sizes on rusty screws: Vic with bit kit (standard bits are easier to replace)
All tools are used often Spirit for its all outside tools

Other factors:
Tool should be rust resistant: Spirit
Work in oily-slippery conditions: LM
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Just the screw? Get a Rebar, use the screw and plier head (and awl if you like) to upgrade your Wave.

Does not compute, must have at least one functional awl  :)
