Surge on the way!!!!!!!!!
on: March 21, 2008, 12:50:43 AM
I have finally ordered a surge,Thanks to advice from you guys. One question though, is the pocket clip worth it?I bought a clip for my kick  and I am disappointed with it.it is loose, really loose, no matter what I do,is the surge clip better or about the same? The surge I purchased came with  the leather sheath,is the leather nice or should I just buy the extra bits and nylon sheath?again thanks for the advice.

As you can see from the Comparatie Multitool Weight Chart the Surge is a pretty heavy beast and I'm not certain it is something I'd want to carry in my pocket.

If you have a Wave or Charge to use the clip on it might not be a bad idea to get it, because then you have options, but getting it to pocket carry the Surge?  I wouldn't suggest trying it.

I carry a core now, back pocket, but I didn't realize the surge was that heavy.I was more concerned about the clip  being tight and of good quality, guess I should consider weight as well, thanks for the heads up.

The clip has a little side movement on the SURGE.. I would recommend buying the Bit Kit and also the nylon sheath.. The leather is nice but I prefer nylon... IMO, the leather rides too high on belt... You will not be disappointed by the SURGE!!!!!!!

The Surge clip is nothing at all like the wiggly Kick clip. If you are a pocket clip guy, you'll like it.

My dad carries a surge with clip in his pocket. He doesn't wear a belt, so that's his only option.

Personally I like the leather sheaths better, my nylon one is kinda getting ratty. It still works though.

The bit kit is an amazing investment. The bit extender is ok, but I don't use it much. And I just stopped carrying the bit kit with sheath and put the bits in the sheaths with my charge and chrunch.

On my clip SURGE! the pocket clip is crazy loose. It works, but it's so wiggly I'd rather just not have it on there. Usually I have it in the Nylon sheath with the extra blade and a bit kit anyway, so it's no big deal.

Its loose on mine too.    A little too much for my liking.

I carry a Charge that seems to be staying pretty wiggle free.

Oops, sounds like maybe I spoke too soon?

My Surge clip does not wiggle much at all. But it does for you guys? That's weird. ???

It's way too heavy for carrying in your pocket...kind of like having a hunk of lead in your pocket.  Stay with the sheath.

I think I will try to find a nylon sheath with a clip,I don't wear a belt much.as for the weight, I carry a S&W 60 in my pocket that weighs about 21 oz unloaded.and I have gotten used to that so maybe I will buy the clip also.thanks again for all the input I really appreciate all the help and advice.I am really looking forward to getting the tool,I will be  looking for things to fix for weeks.

Heck, After reading a lot of chatter, I just ordered a Surge. I'm a big guy & I've had issues with a Wave being just too light a tool for working around a horse ranch. I've 8 LM tools. They're in the glove boxes in the autos & in the saddlebags on the Harleys. My carry piece is a Wave but soon it'll be a Surge.
Thanks for the super forum!

My clip wiggles some, and the Surge is probably way heavier than anything you've carried clipped before. If those two things don't bother you, you'll probably love it. :P I carry it clipped every once in a while, but not real often. Works fine, it's just a bit bulky. :)

I'm a panhead rider. Without a trusty Leatherman, I'd probably still most likely be busted down on some deserted highway!! :multi:

Nope but thanks for the link. I just made it one of my favs. I'll surf it & most like join up. It looks like a great vintage cycle site.

BTW, www.PanHeadMikes.com just opened up & is under construction. I'm going to sell off some of the scooters that have been collecting dust.........

Thanks all for the warm welcome!
