Kobalt Pliers Set @ Lowes $9.95

Lowes has their 5 piece Kobalt pliers set (slipjoint, water pump, cutters, lineman and needle nose plus a free adjustable wrench) down to $9.95.

Holy crap that's cheap for all those! I might have to stop by and pick that up for beater tools when working on the car. Where are they in the store?

Went by Lowes and found them. I couldn't pass for $9.95.

Obviously these are not the best quality tools and if they do not work out I will probably just give them away, but some seem decent. The Lineman's pliers were what I really wanted and sadly mine are not machined enough and they do not open properly. The adjustable wrench is pretty rattly and the ends do not meet properly. I feel like I could break the handles on the wrench specifically for some reason. All the rest seem alright.

Even though some of the tools are a bit wonky and may not work entirely properly I don't really care that much. These have a lifetime warranty so if one of them breaks down the line maybe I will send in the Linesman's pliers with them. I could return the whole set easily, but then i'm sure I would have a problem with at least one of the other tools in the new set. I was looking at each set before buying and the cutters seemed like crap on most and I selected one which looked like it had the best cutters.

Anyways, I would say for the price and lifetime warranty these are definitely worth the cost. I would not use these often, but for working on specifically dirty areas or for keeping some tools in your truck these would be great.

I've had bad luck with made in China lineman pliers so I'm gonna try to stick to American or German ones.

With Xmas around the corner, I just had to pick up a couple of sets. At this price, it's as good of a deal as anything from Harbor Freight, even better in this case.

Btw, Harbor Freight's Pittsburgh line are now Lifetime Warranty, as well. Not sure when they started doing that. One of the times I'd gone in to buy a few tools, the guy there mentioned it to me. If one of their tools messes up, just bring it in for an exchange. Tested it out the other day with a pair of Channel Locks. Sure enough, they swapped it out right on the spot.  :)

That's good to know about Harbor Freight. I read somewhere else they are kinda cracking down on returns and threatening with a 20% restocking fee on some items.

Yeah. Actually, a lot of retail places are starting to tighten their belts on that stuff. I'm curious to see how that'll all turn out. I've had to argue a few returns. For me, if the return is due to defects, etc (ie, not my fault/choice), I won't pay restocking fees. Won my argument with a new cell phone, recently.

I guess this Harbor Freight warranty strategy helps offset any bad feelings, while helping to retain loyalty. Hey, bringing in bad pliers for a swap is more of an exchange, anyway. Guessing they get compensated in some way by manufacturer. Overall, though, an quick & easy exchange on faulty tools is enough to keep me coming back. Broken tools happen, no matter the price tag.

I know they aren't on the level of klein/knipex quality but for the price you can't beat it. I'm thinking about getting a set and making it a tool roll for my car.

For a 12 pack of PBR reg size cans yes. I might try a 20% off Harbor Freight Coupon to see if they accept competitior coupons.

I think it depends on certain groups of Lowes stores. I stopped at one on my way home and regular price and another had them for $9.95. It seems like a luck of the draw really.

That is inexpensive but Kobalt tools are so horrid I would be inclined to purchase HF over them

I would if Kobalt has two levels of tools. All the tools of there that I have I would pit against Stanley or Craftmans.

Finally found these laying on the floor in the tool department at my Lowes. I picked up a set for my son as a Christmas gift. Thanks for the heads up on this ToolJoe.

I went to Lowes a couple days ago and there weren't too many left. I might have to snag one. Pretty good deal considering it comes out to about 1.50 per tool.
