What LM is the best to EDC while being useful and durable?

Hello.

I usually carry my Style PS to school and everywhere I go and thought, would've Juice S2 or Squirt PS4 been more of a useful option?

What are your thoughts?

between the 2 options i'd go for the Squirt. there was a challenge recently to carry it all month as a stand alone tool and people did some really amazing things with it
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

There's currently an ongoing Juice challenge (I'm using the S2), so you might get some insight from those threads as well.
My two cents on the S2 is the "new" one doesn't have the greatest ergonomics or fit, because of the plastic scales. The ergos can be improved with some light modification I suppose. The tool loadout is decent, comparable to a midsize SAK (such as a Deluxe Tinker) with bigger pliers. If you can find a good deal on one, it's a decent choice in my opinion, but I wouldn't go for it at $50.

If I may throw another name in the mix; If you don't mind the lack of scissors, look into maybe getting a Rebar. It's pretty compact for a full size tool, and I find all the implements to be pretty effective.

S2 is a great option for Compact size pliers, but the scissors on it can be a hit and miss. Some work great, some less so. And the screwdrivers are known to fight back and bite you when you try to open them up. Maybe a paring of a Learterman Style PS + a Vicotrinox Rambler would be perfect for your needs. Good phillips and scissors for light duty tasks on the Rambler and pliers in a compact frame on the PS.

I'll second the idea of adding vs. replacing.  I often carry the Style PS with a slim SAK (Cadet, Pioneer, Tinker).

If you are looking for a replacement, the Squirt adds a few drivers and a file in a very similar size.  I might also suggest a used Leatherman PST II (assuming you want to keep scissors) for a more full sized option.

I think both the Squirt PS4 or the Juice S2 will be more useful than the Style PS because of the blade you get which the Style PS does not have. To me the blade is very useful.

The choice comes down to size. The Squirt is smaller than the Style and the Juice is bigger. Even though the Squirt is a very capable tool you can get more done with the Juice because of it's bigger size. Bigger knife, scissors, handles makes it easier to work with. You get a can opener and nicer drivers with the Juice but no file. You get a tiny file with the Squirt but no can opener.

My vote is for the Juice S2. Look for an Older Orange Juice S2. It looks nicer to me and the blade is a bit longer.

What are your thoughts?

Welcome aboard

More useful, all depends on what challenges you personally are likely to encounter. The answer is different for different people. I believe there is no such thing as the best brand, and the best tools are the ones that suit me best (even if they're not much good for someone else)

A couple of questions.....

A) Have you (more than once) not been able to do what needed doing, but would have been able if you had "X" tool on your multitool? (if so, what?)

B) Do you have restrictions at school (or even outside of school) as to what you can carry?

Both Juice S2 and Squirt PS4 are great EDC options.
Easy to carry and very useful.
I think it comes down to if you have use for the S2s bigger size tools. If you do food stuff like cutting fruit, the S2 blade is big advantage. If you go by bike to school S2 pliers are good to have.
If not the PS4 can be better since it disappears in pocket and is a super option for small tinkering and is even more "friendly" option in a school setting.
I cycle both regulary in my EDC depending on setting.
For the moment I'm doing the juice 30 day challenge with the old style S2.

I find the PST to be a pretty good EDC.  Slim, lightweight, strong.

Since Home Depot is selling the Skeletool for pretty cheap ($30), that might be an option!  It will give you nice pliers, blade and screwdrivers!

You might not know this sir_mike, most of the LM products here are more expensive in Finland than in the USA. For example, Wave costs 80$ in Amazon, Wave costs 110$ (€ converted to €).

I can't recommend the pst ii enough. Slim, light weight, even has scissors. If you really need locking tools you could upgrade to the pulse. But the pst ii is simplicity at its finest.

I think you have the XXL warehouses in Finland now also, as we do in Sweden.
They sell the Wave for about 80€:

However I think the Wave is a big overkill to carry in school unless it´s a craft school.
I would suggest any of your 2 initial choices in the thread start.

Wave and Surge as suggested above are really not for school. Might even get you in trouble and nothing you would like to use in the cafeteria and the belt pouch doesn´t exactly attract girls, I can testify to that.  :D

Except for that wretched combo edge blade  :-\ . That one totally ruins it for me -give me either full plain edge or a serrated one  , the only CE I like is the one on OHO Vics like the Soldier 2008
