My new collection?!
on: December 06, 2015, 04:33:39 PM
Well, my grandparents gave me an old stereo, and it had a turntable. So, looking around at Barnes and Noble last night, I saw they had some vinyl records. I am absolutely hooked after buying just the one record, the Beatles abbey road

Not my thing, but even in my small city, a specialty store for vinyl records has opened. I wandered in because it wasa café as well, they had really good coffee. :)

Your signature became rather fitting for the topic... ;)

Vinyl is cool....I managed to hang onto about 50 or so of mine from the 60's-90's.

Being raised on vinyl myself I'm glad your grandparents hooked you up.  There are so many records available at my local flea market it's tempting to get a player.

Still have my old Bang & Olufsen turntable, and a couple hundred LPs. Didn't feel like spending the money to rebuild my collection, and they still sound great.

Bang and Olufsen, really?! I would kill to have a set of speakers for my stereo, they really have a great sound to them. I just have other things I need to pay off and save for, like paying off my first car, and college since I'm still in high school. Ugh...

The cones on the original Boston Acoustics speakers disintegrated; the current set are Bowers & Wilkins (B&W). One of the cheapest sets in the shop, though still a bit pricey. Stereo equipment gets very expensive very quickly. The shop had items that were substantially more expensive than my car.

Still, it's Bowers and Wilkins!
Looked into some Harmon Kardon for some time, ended up with my fathers Bose speakers, which aren't all that bad...

That's a great one to choose for starters - Their best album.

Others a very, very good - Revolver, Sergeant Pepper, Rubber Soul and others - AR is the best.

Vinyl is making a comeback - But I cant bear getting up every 20 minutes to flip the record.
Compared to days (literally) worth of music on my ipod!! (including all the Beatles records!!)

For something totally different:

Beethoven's Piano Concerto #5 (The Emperor)

Arthur Rubinstein and the Boston Symphony conducted by Erich Leinsdorf

I think that their White Album was the most enjoyable to listen to. Lots of fun songs, and a few melancholy ones thrown in to keep you from having too much fun.

Mp3 players were probably the best thing to ever happen to the audiophiles of the world.

Hmmm - True - Somehow I never got into the White Album - I have it - so must listen to it some more
Just a few too many weird songs (9  ??? ;) ) on there for my liking!!

What I like about AR - Is that there are some amazing and beautiful songs there especially George's, some true classics
And on the second side of the album (showing my age here, and in keeping with the theme of this thread!!) I love how all the songs pretty much run into each other - almost like a Floyd concept album.
I read somewhere once that LM had several unfinished songs - so rather than complete them they just ran all the snippets together to make AR side II !
Also love Ringo's solo - Was that his only one !!

I play the violin in the orchestra, so that doesn't sound like a bad idea

Another member of the outdated club. When my grandfather passed and we were cleaning things out I found some of his old Elvis and Sinatra records which I took home. My dad saw my interest and dug out all his records he still had(Kiss, Aerosmith, Foreigner, Kirky's above stated Zeppelin album as well as stairway to heaven) and then for Christmas "santa" brought me a fairly basic record player. But I'm digging it, especially as it's all the stuff my dad listened to when he was my age(stuff I also listen to). Picked up three more yesterday(Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel), I'm looking forward to the collection growing.
