Buck 301
on: December 31, 2015, 09:07:56 PM
Today, I was perusing the local Army Navy (surplus type store).  Ours, in particular is kind of a secondhand store crossed with a surplus store.

In the case were several civilian pocketknives mixed in with bayonets and fighting knives.   Thinking this was a Schrade Old Timer, I had the lady show it to me out of the case.   The knife was engraved PMQC 1993 with a large dragline type excavator to the left. She said that they had intended to sell all 6 (probably all this knife with different year on the engravings) for $100, but since I only had $10 and a prepaid card I'd bought to buy stuff online with $4 left over, I said I could only afford one.   So, I got it for $12.     When I got in the car after purchase, I found it was a Buck 301.

I later figured out that it stood for Pounding Mill Quarry Corporation, a company located about 5-10 minutes from my home.  According to a retiree of the company who is a friend of my grandfather, the company had engraved knives made every year to give to customers and employees at Christmastime (I do believe this is no longer done).

All my Stockmans--Buck (the one I just bought), Imperial (found for $4 at an antique mall in bad shape, I fixed it up), Old Timer (my grandfather's, originally), and Case (a childhood knife).  I think I have a Stockman problem!  :D

I definately love the utility of the 3 blade stockman.  Great for extended whittling sessions that would dull a single blade

That's a great deal on a Buck 301.

The real world price is around $35.00-$40.00.

Congrats.

Very nice find! The 301 is one of Bucks best, and has been for years. Great pocket knife.

I've always liked the look of +2 bladed pocket knives but never seen a practical reason to carry one.  Just figured a dirty blade and a precision blade were enough.  Now I know....."whittling"

You've enlightened me.  :tu:
