Hipstreet Micron Tablet.
on:
January 03, 2016, 03:02:28 AM
I stumbled upon a 7" tablet at a Pharmacy of all places. When I saw the price, it came home with me. I am not sure what I will use it for as this was purely an impulse buy. But then again, when I saw the sale price of 46 bucks, I couldn't just leave it there. A tablet for 46 bucks? I paid higher for an SD card not that long ago.
Photos will have to wait as I am told to charge it for 6 hours before I get to play with it.
Here are the specs however...
8GB capacity – plus supports up to a 32GB MicroSD Card
Quad Core CPU with 1GB RAM
800 x 480 Resolution
Dual Mali-400 Graphics Processor
Android™ 5 (Lollipop) Operating System
Rechargeable lithium polymer battery built-in
802.11 b/g/n built-in Wi-Fi module
Built-in speaker, microphone and front facing camera
Supports multiple language formats
Clock, calendar, calculator, sound recorder
Download your favorite apps easily from the Google Play™
Micro 2.0 USB / 3.5mm Earphone Jack

For that price, anything is good I would wager. Here are some photos.
I have never heard of hipstreet before.
The little tablet comes with a protective screen already installed. Not sure if I should remove it or keep it there. There are a few air pockets that I have tried to remove with no success. At least these are around the frame so I think I can live with it the way it came.
And the back of the device has a nice faux carbon fiber texture.

@46 bucks that is likely well below cost. Good find.

Congratulations Chako. Hope you have fun with it...
Stating that... do you find it cheap? You can get here a Romanian-made (well rebranded one) with similar specs for about 50 USD at every street corner.
And if you go to any of the Spamcorp-ish websites from the big country where most of your electronics are made, there are Q88 and other tablets starting at 38 USD shipped at the same configuration as yours...

The price is similar to here. The lower price is because of the low resolution screen. I also assume that the main memory will be below 1gb.
I bought one with 1024 screen and 1gb memory for around 45 euro a week ago.
You may also find that the HDMI output picture is very slow and the screen only looks good at a certain, limited, angle.

Indeed those sort of things seem more and more common. It doesn't sound too bad, apart from screen resolution (considering a lot of phones these days are starting to have Full HD+ resolutions on a much smaller screen... why I have no idea...)
At that price it's a great disposable tablet for kids to use I guess...

I agree. The resolution doesn't appear to be an issue on this screen oddly enough. It just blows me away that you can get a functioning tablet for less than 50 bucks.

I'm actually surprised that the Google branded stuff moved from being affordable options to only high end.
The Amazon Fire range really dropped the bottom out of that market, aside from the piles of clones coming from
Kamino
China...

The only bad thing about this low range tablets is built quality, and how things are assembled inside, really fragile, i disassemble some, and that´s a lot of hot glue, and bad soldering! the low ram is a issue, that will lag like a small engine with a huge turbo, and for me that´s frustrating:( but for the price is a good backup to have at home!
