Paratool add'l options
on:
March 03, 2016, 03:13:03 PM
I'm working toward acquiring a paratool and noticed that, at least the current versions, show 5 tools on one side and 3 tools on the other. Is it possible to easily add 2 more tools, including a long tool like v-cutter and
or a bit driver?

The Paratool has room for 2 long tools, and 3 short tools on either handle. Any short tool will fit where the long tool goes, but long tools (files, blades, strap cutters) cant fit in short tool spots. The socket adapter is two tool spaces wide, and requires carrying a 1/4" socket separately to put bits in.
However, some long tools (such as the scissors) are a tad too long, and require modifying the Paratools chassis to fit them. Kampfer made a thread about it recently.

To fit both the strap cutter and the bit adapter, you would have to remove another tool (I recommend getting rid of the can opener)

And some tools require two "spaces". Those shown on the SOG website should only take up one space each though so yes, there's probably two spacers there. The bit driver takes up two spaces and you might have to switch things around somewhat to make things work.

The can and bottle openers have to go into one the bottom three slots, if the tool is sitting with the head on top

I'm aware of the bit driver taking 2 spaces, and really just through that idea out there. I definitely want to the v-cutter and looks like I can do that without sacrificing anything. What about filling the gap from the "2-space-washer?" is that something that comes with any of the accessories or is that a hardware store run?

I would imagine, or at least hope, that they would include the washers with the cutter. The Paratool should come with two empty slot washers.

The Paratool would have 2 single tool width washers, rather than one extra thick washer.
You dont need extra washers to add the Vcutter.

Awesome. Sounds like I'll be able to make a mini-me of my power-lock sans bit driver. I'm going to give the PL a fully serrated blade instead of the combo. I'll put the combo on the PT in place of the two blades and add a saw along with the v-cutter. I guess I could add the large screwdriver as well, but really don't see the point with the file tip being there.
