Amici,
Although I tend to lean towards the handmade variety for my fixed blades, I recentyl saw a Muela stag handled Colbri with a 3" blade that I thought I'd pick up and give it a whirl plus adding it to the hiking rotation once it arrives.

My question is since this would be my first Muela, what are your thoughts on their products and company?

Is this a decent knife manufacturer especially regarding stag handles or soso meaning not that good and better off used as a shiner during trout season?

Cheers,
Serge

I've got a big old Muela (at least I'm pretty sure it's a Muela, I haven't looked at it for a while) Bowie and it's perfectly OK.  Not brilliant perhaps but nothing wrong with it.  Perfectly good for the money IMO.

High end muelas are very good. Colibrí it`s a very good knife, but is made of 440A, their standard steel. If you don't mind continuous sharpening, it will serve you well.

Amici,
Here are some pics of my newly arrived Colibri with a custom made kydex sheath for inverted around the neck carry..

I think the workmanship is fantastic, and I'm seriously looking forward to this weekend when I plan on putting it to the test on my next hiking venture into the field..

Cheers,
Serge

Thought I'd crack open this old thread and see if it can gain any momentum.

Muela Knives are more or less the "affordable" hunting knife option around me.
A bit better than the Schrades and "brand" knifes (Humvee, Jeep, other junk)

a bit more pocketbook friendly than the Bucks, Kabars, and so on.

All the ones I've had have been a "standard" steel (let's say 440), and of what appears to be decent quality (I've never had any problems, but I also baby them a little. After all, they're no Ulimate Bear Grills Surival Knife)

I've had an Outdoor (simple hunting knife, alloy handle) a Survival (sort of silly looking bowie thing, polymer handle) and a Scorpion (kind of badass, but ended up being a bit big for my needs, rubbery handle)

All of them I've picked up on the appropriate sale, as I've never been confident enough in the brand to match the local RRP in terms of value.

I like their style, I like their sheaths, and I'm reasonably pleased with their function, given the lack of Super Materials or Super Tacticalness, or Super Ultimate Survivalness.

So that's where I'm at at the moment - Does anyone have any input for this brand? Great recommendations? Horror stories?

My Muelas will often stay at home, and more rugged (and less attractive) knives will come on trips, (not to say the Muelas don't get used, but they get to stick to house-and-garden work)

I do think brands like Muela (and Aitor, and Cudeman) have a place in the market and actually make a better knife that a lot of folks give them credit for.  However they do seem to tend towards some very old fashioned designs, there really is only so many versions of a saw backed Bowie I can stand to look at.

I am extremely happy with my 10" blade Cudeman Bowie, with a full tang handle.
The Muelas prefer hidden tangs. Also good quality.
