What have you used to open a beer?
on: April 12, 2016, 04:59:35 PM
From this poll/topic: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,65627.0.html

In descending order of how regularly used, all the methods of opening a beer I can think of:
1. My hands & fingers......for cans.
2. Simple dedicated bottle opener.
3. Back end of a lighter, BIC is best of course.
4. Seat belt buckle
5. Bar counter, table top, rock, various parts of a car.......just about any 90 degree'ish corner where I can hook the edge of the cap.
6. Screwdriver or some misc tool.

There is a feint possibility I've used a bottle opener on a SAK once upon a time, but I definately can't remember it

Bottle opener and hands. Always wanted to try using my chainsaw though.

My entire fixed blade collection.

Granted I don't really drink beer, so usually I am just trying to get rid of it.

I used to carry a Titanium ring (resized from a piece of titanium pipe). It worked wonders for opening bottles (and was a great party-trick). I've seen rings with built in opener-holes but that's not really needed. Just don't go using your gold wedding ring.

Also at my most lazy I've used the PST the way you'd use a lighter instead of just opening it and using the opener.

You left out "7. Plastic explosive." Works great, just don't wanna use too much.

I've tried it with my gold wedding ring. Result? Sore ring finger.

Bottle opener...

The pliers on my Rebar once, just to see if I could.

Mostly bottle openers of the MT I had at the time. Occasionally I will pull out my Wallet Waiter and use that to impress the crowd  :D

One offs I remember are using a car wheel, lawn chair arm (metal), wooden picnic table edge with a coin on top... all by leaning the bottle so the crown edge hangs off the other object and using the other hand to karate chop the crown. With practice can get it off in one blow.

A few times I have been pointed out that the caps are twist open  :bnghd:  What's the fun in that.

House key.

The SD tip of the nail file blade of a Vic classic. Use the SD tip to gently pry up the crimped flange about 1/3 of the way around and then just pop off  cap with edge of nail file.

Tea spoon.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

I think I have opened more bottles with non-standard openers for fun than because of not having an opener. Unless I am about to pass through a metal detector, I carry a SAK or at least some pocket tool. I like the P-51: Not the best cap lifter, but it does the trick and is in general a versatile little thing.

I often use my longsword to open bottles :salute:
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Slightly less dramatic than a longsword, my favourite is using a lighter.........with the enthusiasm of a few beers already consumed, you can get a magnificent pop and cap flying across the room  :drink:

Well... plenty of beer require plenty of opening options  :drink: :drink:

- lighter (until I finally quitted smoking regularly)
- snuff cans (the good nasal stuff)
- screwdrivers
- pliers
- fixed blade
- yardstick
- bottle opener
- axehead
- hammerhead
- wooden board
etc etc.

With everything that has a 90° angle and is harder than the cap with some space can lift it.

I never used my teeth... it makes me goose bumps to think of abusing my teeth with such stuff...

I open all my beers with a BIC lighter. Like you said if your good you can get it to shoot off across the room with a loud pop!

I have used many, many methods over the years to open beers though. Much to many to mention.
