There was a great BBC series recently too, called Castle (appropriately), and guess what. It's on Youtube, yay.

Marc Morris did a series called 'Castle' too:

Cool thread. The only castles I have on digital (somewhere) are the ones at Kythira island. I'll see if I can find some good pics.

I did visit several castles in the UK but it was in the film era, so most have people posing in front of the Castle - we only took a few pictures of each castle in them days..... Now, you can shoot hundreds.

I had a National trust card so I could get into most of the English ones for free.

I was seriously annoyed when I realised that my "National" card did not cover Scotland and Wales....

Stirling castle, Edinburgh Castle, are well kept in Scotland.

Wales seems to have a Castle at each turn of the road.

St Michaels mount is also nice/romantic especially if you go by boat.

I got an overseas visitor pass from English Heritage which was for about 15 days I think. We saw about seven castles in that time and got in for half price at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.

I'm a member of English Heritage and the National Trust. The castles and ruins tend to be English Heritage properties these days, with the Trust mostly looking after stately homes and parks. They are both registered charities these days too which has given them a real boost.

There's some rivalry between the two organisations which amuses me, but they are both doing brilliant work.
I used to come here a lot.
