I recon soft metal like aluminium could be ok if poking teeths. But i want to make mine either stainless steel or rst. I have not seen anyone making these in metal.

They work well for cleaning out lint and dust from SAKs. As for metal toothpicks, there seems to be a market for titanium toothpicks (search it, there's plenty of different designs).

Won't metal toothpicks harm/break your teeth? :o

My 'picks are used for pokey stuff.  Boring I know.

I guess, then again dentists use them? The one I have is awesome for lanceting with a small enough tip that it can go into pores without causing undue damage.

I use them for cleaning the SAK mainly; as a toothpick only if something's stuck so bad it really annoys me.

Glad to know so many others use them as toothpicks. It's probably one of the most common uses from my SAKs - always comes in handy after a meal. Also works great for cleaning out the tool but I make sure to wash it well afterward

SAK crevice cleaner is one of my uses too, you know in the lightly older knifes such as mine the tweezers complete the set as a scissors tightener, it's neat Victorinox packaged a basic mainteinance kit within their knifes.

Cleaning the SAK and my folders, plus poking and pulling with it.  I have used it for picking my teeth--but only on a knife with new scales and a new toothpick.

On those eBay purchases of used knives, when cleaning the purchase, just remove the scales and do a thorough cleaning.  I also lightly boil and then wash old toothpicks and tweezers, though I tend to keep a batch of new toothpicks and use these after all the cleaning.

Ive been saving some thin Ti scrap material to make toothpics from. I think that would be ok as it would 'feel' softer than steel.  Its one of those many things on the list I just havent had a chance to try yet.

I use it for cleaning the knife.
Once in Marocco I used it as a fork for eating, while walking around, boiled chikpeas bought from a street vendor.

The same. I prefer a toothpick over tweezers and I put a toothpick in the tweezers place on my Minichamp (whith pen on the other side).

Our mouth contains the most dangerous bacteria. Although it is a very bad idea to borrow the toothpick of another, using a toothpick of our own, that we clean from time to time, isn't dangerous for us (it might be dangerous for the toothpick on the other hand).

Not using it much actually. A metal one could be fun to pick locks. But it would be nice to replace it with something more useful for outdoor activités, like a small firesteel.

I think there would be a great business opportunity here to offer alternative tools to the traditional toothpick and tweezers

That is actually a great idea, if it is doable.
Take note, Mr.Vic.
