First Look: VICTORINOX PIONEER X DAMAST LIMITED EDITION 2016

There has been a lot of rumors last year, about the possibility that Victorinox is bringing a new member of the Pioneer-series to the market. A Pioneer with scissors, thats what everybody and his aunt where talking about.
It turned out to be true, what a thrill!
In my humble opinion the most discussed new entry in the last few years...
You can imagine my exitement, as my peferred dealer informed me, that a package was on its way to me (Preorder when you can...)

But, what could it possibly be?

We know the overpack from previous Limited Editions, but whats it gonna be this year?

Doh! A Pionier X with damast!
Well, the blade at least :-)

Nicely done, the presentation case. A high quality cardboard box, window and a strong magnet, lest the Pioneer goes AWOL :-)

Under the inlay with the magnet we find the description, I´ll upload it for your interest:

The blade is a piece of art, I´m stunned:

Even the Alox-scales are different this time. I´d call it „Gun Metal Grey“, Victorinox calls it „Grey with a touch of green“. What ever the name of the colour, I like it a lot!

Speaking of Limited, in this case it means, that only 5000 pieces are made.
Considering Victorinox has a daliy output of roughly 120.000 knives, thats realy nothing. So better get going, if you want to get one!
(I sterilized the serialnumber, so don´t get confused, that there´s just a „0“ )

The Pioneer-series is made to be tough. But honestly I have a hard time, putting a beauty like this trough its paces. Enough others to choose from :-)

The beauty...

Speaking about functionality, the tolls a Pioneer comes with should be well known by now, but to be thorough, heres a tool-shot:

Geez, there´s no blade?
Sure it is!

The firt to post what the little blue one is, earnes the titel „SAK-connaisseur of the day“!

So, what can one say about Victorinox, that hasn´t been said a thousand times before?
Outstanding quality?
Build to last?
Best bang for buck ratio in the whole business?
Addictive as hell?

Amen to all of the above :-)

Victorinox makes fun, each and every time, till the next one arrives...

Thanks for indulging me!

If you have any questiones, shoot!

Wow what a beautiful case you've got for your Swisstool Spirit!

The magnet in the Damascus box isn't quite good enough to stop the SAK coming loose in the post, I found. One of mine was basically loose in the box; it was undamaged but the box window was scratched on the inside.

Is that 0/5000 or are my eyes playing tricks on me?
Does that mean there are 5001 out there?

Your eyes are deceiving you, the following numbers are painted over before uploading the photo. I was wondering a bit there to. Number 0 would be a bit too good. Possibly to avoid helping scammers?

No, he just censored the number :salute:
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I saw a pic of #0000, but maybe it was not an actual photo either.

So if there are 5000 pieces then the numbers stop at 4999, unless they don't.  :P

Mine was loose also, hanging on by the magnet only. They should have put some padding inside the case to stop movement. The packaging for most of them allows movement, the PX I got recently is sealed in a box that's too big and it rattles around. The resellers usually package SAKs better than the factory nowadays, which is probably the reverse of earlier times. The boxes used to either fit snugly or have a molded liner inside.

(I sterilized the serialnumber, so don´t get confused, that there´s just a „0)

If you have any questiones, shoot!

My question is: Why is the number a secret? Just curious.  ???

Maybe I'm being thick? I don't understand how a scam could be run by someone or anyone having the serial number of your pocket knife, lots of us have our SNs in another thread, what should we be worried about exactly?

Let me take a stab at this... A person with ill intent might:

1) read this forum for the serial number of a damascus pioneer X currently owned by someone (ie. not one that is still in webstores)
2) purchase a damascus pioneer X for himself
3) change the existing serial number to that of another owner's
4) use the altered knife to commit murder,
5) leave a clue for the police by deliberately allowing the serial number on the knife be captured by CCTV
6) frame the innocent MTO forummer who didnt know the importance of confidentiality regarding serial numbers on SAKs

(Image removed from quote.)

That's a shaky scenario RR, it's not a car license or a gun registration, or personal identity document. Maybe bad detective stories are to blame, a lot of that stuff is pretty far fetched.

I still am curious as to why any of us should worry, but not enough to actually be concerned.  :)
