Idiot of the week.
on: June 01, 2016, 03:06:35 AM
This guy in Vancouver walks down the street with a solid gold eagle statue with a diamond encrusted head, valued at approximately  $5 million.

The statue was not in a box, case, bag or any sort of covering.

Then someone hits him and takes off with the statue, and he is surprised.

I'm not a criminal, nor do I have any interest in persuing a life of crime, but if I saw a guy walking down the street with $5 million I would probably consider taking a shot at it myself.

He was planning to sell the statue to fund a series of concerts to raise money to fight breast cancer, which is a very good cause, and all the more reason to invest in an armored car, or at least some sort of case to hide the fact that he wasn't walking down the street with $5 million.

I don't trust my neighbors enough to leave my Jeep unlocked for even a few minutes.   I sure as heck wouldn't take chances with anything of serious value.

I'm skeptical/cynical (just because I often am).  My alarm bells went off straight away, and my first thought is some kind of scam, for several reasons:

1  How stupid would you have to be to have it visible, out in the open on the street "while loading it into a vehicle".

2  Very high value claimed by the owner

3  "Was going to donate proceeds of sale to charity"

I suspect either an insurance scam or just drumming up publicity in an attempt to increase the selling price (once it is "recovered".  It will be interesting to see what the police do about it in the long run.

I had read that...and couldn't believe the story. But then, there have been a lot of stupid lately.

-Man tries to commit suicide by jumping into lion den at zoo. 2 lions shot dead, and man survives.
-Kid falls into Cincinnati zoo Gorilla Display. Zoo forced to shoot Gorilla to protect kid. Mother not repentant at all that she allowed kid to climb over wall, vegetation, and fence.
- Two Australian ladies are out and about celebrating one fighting successfully cancer. Both decide to take a late night swim in croc infested waters. One does not make it back.

There seems to be a lot of dumb things going on with just the wildlife let alone other things.

Don't forget the bison that had to be euthanized a couple of weeks ago because two idiots thought it was cold.

Seems there are a lot of contenders for Idiot of the Week.

Idiocy resulting in damage or death needs to be added to the Criminal Code.

I'm not sure it is phrased like that, but I believe it more or less is in many places, however the "victims" will try to spin it to say it's not their fault they got eaten by crocodiles, the local council should have made one of the oldest predators on the face of the earth live somewhere else.

I left to make a coffee and now I've forgotten where I was going with this.

Oh right, the Maltese Falcon.
I'm not really buying it.
Has anyone heard of this 5 million dollar gem encrusted bird before? I don't know what random collectors and enthusiasts are getting up to these days, but I feel a piece of art of that value would be "known" ?

A bit more reading seems to indicate that the eagle is worth a lot because it has a valuable gemstone stuck on it, and the victim who was robbed had the statue in a backpack with him at a church service (!!! ?) and was telling all and sundry that he had an expensive piece of art in his backpack.  Stupider and stupider

one of our local news channels reported; "the baby bison was returned to nature and is alright, everything is fine..."

while the other channels/news was saying it was rejected by the heard and was euthanized. the stupid "inaccurate" news made it sound like it's "cute and okay" to do what that person did :twak:

Good lord, that's one of the dumbest things I've read.  How stupid do you have to be?  Makes you wonder how some folks don't fall down more often.

Unfortunately the second story is the correct one.
