Sorry, DoukDouk fans.  I can't imagine carrying one of those when an excellent Case Soddie Jr costs about the same - or even less, depending on where you get the Soddie.

Opening, cutting, closing, then re-pocketing a Soddie Jr. is a sensual pleasure.  Great ergonomics.

Opening, cutting, closing, then re-pocketing a DoukDouk at best offers the pleasure of making do with minimalist equipment.  DoukDouk ergonomics are fairly poor, IMO.

I think the concept of the Douk Douk is a slim knife in the first place. =P

And the steel is much better than Case's current fare.

I have to be honest here but I like the Douk.  I like variety. It does offer something different and it
does cut well.  It's quite solid, somewhat ugly/rustic but how many of them do you see being carried?
So with that I like to carry mine around occasionally in a nice slim cordura sheath when I get tired of
carrying around the same old knives and am ready for a break.  ;)

I'll admit it's a little slimmer than a Soddie.

However, for slimmer I'd go with a Vic Alox single blade for about the same price as a DoukDouk.

I actually prefer the stainless Soddie Jr. for EDC.

Soddie Jr. is also available in a carbon steel version for those who want the better edge holding.

Why go for an alox Solo or Pioneer two-blader when you can get an alox Bantam and have so much more possibilities with the knife?  Heck, and compared to the alox Solo, the Cadet will probably be about as thick. *nods*

Still, the Douk Douk is an interesting little knife. :)

Not familiar with the Bantam.  Is it single layer?

Isn't the Cadet two layers thick, while the Solo is only a single layer?

Are you saying that a two layer Alox is as thin as a DoukDouk?

Really so the workers making them in France are not paid a fair wage to produce them? If they aren't why not?

I got mine (along with a Mercator) from www.edcdepot.com

I think it was about $20 a peice, plus shipping..it could have changed since then though.  Enter EDC when you're checking out and you get 5% off!

He was not, but he's not quite right. They are made by one legged Chinese children who work for M&Ms, (which are made in the US so it's OK).
