Trading ethics experience
on: August 02, 2016, 02:59:59 PM
Admin pls move the topic if inaproriate.

I was currently selling NIB SwissFlame and CampFlame through the forum. I have got an offer via PM below the asking price as expected. I have replied with discount and blocked the items to get some time for bargaining.

Waiting for the reply I was PMed by other member with even lower offer than the first one.

Subsequently the first bidder increased his offer to more acceptable level and we've made a deal.

As I had another CampFlame in the drawer for later sale or trade, I've decided to sell it to the second bidder to make another fellow collector happy. Second deal of the day done.

By accident I have than clicked some unknown icon in the Tapatalk that revealed both bidders are actually the same person using different but similar nicknames on various knife related forums.

I feel now a bit cheated. How would you feel in such situation? Do you consider such behaviour acceptable?

I've got the money I wanted but will not mail the items until I get paid and still I do not know if I should expect any Paypal scam or not.

I don't know the forum rules, but I'd cancel the trades altogether.  I wouldn't support that kind of behavior.

If you don't feel good about the transaction then walk away from it.  That bitter taste will last far longer than the money from the sale.

I assumed it was against the rules to have more than one login (unless you happen to be Def).

I'd cancel the trade.

I'm obviously in the minority here, as from what I see you got an acceptable price for both items (well, prices you were prepared to accept, anyway), so I would just send them both once you received your money.

If you are worried you will get PayPal scammed ask the buyer to send the money as friend/family rather than purchase.

If you agreed to a very low price for the second one because you were being nice to a "fellow collector" then it is a judgement call for you to decide what to do about the second one, but I think you should sell at least the first one.

Just my opinion, but that's what you asked for.

That’s just sneaky!

Not the way we do things on this forum,
I would cancel the trade and post both the names in the feedback
section of the forum (it’s there for both good and bad trades)  :salute:

Could you tell us what this icon is? How does it show that the different nicks belong to the same person?

That isn't cool to have two usernames on the forum and to use that to try and get a better deal is even worse. I'd also say cancel and let a moderator know about the two accounts.

You always have the right to refuse a sale for ANY reason. If you feel uncomfortable than do not do it.

As far as what actually happened. If they tried to act as two separate people in order to get a better price from you then I would not deal with them and they would be reported to Admin. You are not allowed two accounts let alone using them for things like this.

Is this what you saw?  If so, it is where someone goes by a certain username on MTO, but for whatever reason had a different username for all of Tapatalk.

Yes, that's it.  Since then I've realized that's "Follow the member" button I do not have in my android old version but have on iPhone.
This is the profile in question

First bid came from nick JasonXu, the second lower one from nick SAKElite whos email/Tapatalk ID is jason.xu0413
Would be strange coincidence if there were 2 people on the forum with the same name.

I remember this Jason Xu guy... Just a few weeks ago, a fellow forumer pointed out that all of his posts were for the purpose of securing collectible saks in the trade section and he hardly contributes anything constructive beyond that.

Have you reported this to a moderator ?

It's one thing to have two user accounts if one hasn't been used for some time, so you get a new one for whatever reason. It appears, however, that both accounts are active and very recently...
